DescriptionThe whole story▼
The XRT is the touring flagship among the road-going Tiger 800s, and touring means roads you have never ridden before. On a trip abroad almost every bend is a first meeting: no memory of where it tightens, no idea whether gravel waits at the exit. Braking on unknown roads is less a question of force than of timing. Accossato's EDF014 is an aluminium brake lever for the Tiger 800 XRT of 2018 to 2020, shaped on CNC machines, fitted to the original master cylinder and adjustable in its distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Tiger 800 XRT, model years 2018 to 2020
- Fits the original master cylinder of the Tiger 800 series
- Adjustable reach
- Three blade lengths; the standard one about 138 mm
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised finish
- Black hub; blade black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Rigid, no folding joint
- Sold for track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato is based today in Villastellone near Turin, where the company runs CNC machining and forging presses. The EDF014 is a machined lever, shaped from aluminium and anodised in two tones: black for the hub, the colour of your choice for the blade. The hub holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, which sits close to the pivot and out of the fingers' way. The blade is rigid, one continuous piece from hub to tip, so its feel on the last day of a tour is the same as on the first.
Bends You Have Never Seen
Riding unfamiliar roads well is mostly a matter of reading them. Watch the point where the two edges of the road seem to meet in the distance. If that vanishing point moves away as you approach, the bend is opening; if it keeps the same distance, the radius is constant; if it draws closer, the bend is tightening, and it is time to slow down. Hedges, walls, a line of telegraph poles and the roofs of oncoming lorries add further clues. Braking in this style comes early and lightly, before the bend and with the XRT still upright, so you enter at a speed from which you could stop within the distance you can see. The front brake is used often but gently, in the first part of the lever's travel, and that is where an adjustable lever earns its place: with the blade close enough to meet the fingers without a reach, small corrections cost no effort, even after a week on tour. Luggage and a passenger lengthen every stop, so leave more room still when the Tiger 800 XRT is fully packed.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF014 for the Tiger 800 from 2015 to 2020 without dividing the series into versions; the lever fits the original master cylinder that the series shares. We offer it for the XRT as a separate product covering the model years 2018 to 2020. Accossato names no clutch lever for the XRT; its EST333P clutch lever is listed only for the Tiger 800 XC, XCx, XR and XRx of 2015 to 2018. When choosing a length, remember that black and red come as standard levers only, silver as standard or short, and blue, gold, green and orange in all three.
Road Approval
This lever is sold for track use, since no German ABE has been documented for it.
