DescriptionThe whole story▼
The V-Strom 1000 had a long career. Suzuki launched it in 2002 around a V-twin derived from its TL1000 sports engine, and for 2014 replaced it with a thoroughly reworked second generation that stayed in the range until the V-Strom 1050 took over. The EDF014 brake lever covers that whole period, from 2002 to 2019. It is a CNC-machined aluminium lever for the original master cylinder, with an adjustable distance to the grip and a blade anodised in one of seven colours.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom, 2002 to 2019
- Fits the original master cylinder
- One listing for the first V-Strom 1000 and the reworked model of 2014
- Adjustable span between blade and grip
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm, short and long versions in selected colours
- Anodised CNC-machined aluminium; black hub, coloured blade
- Rigid blade, no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato starts the EDF014 as a piece of solid aluminium and mills it to shape on CNC equipment. The lever is then anodised, which gives it a hard oxide skin that takes the dye: black for the hub, where the pivot and the reach adjuster sit, and your chosen colour for the blade. On a bike that often lives outdoors, parked at hotels, campsites and ferry terminals, this is worth more than it sounds, because the colour belongs to the metal instead of resting on top of it. The blade is fixed to the hub, and nothing along its length folds.
One Listing, Two Generations
A lever that covers 2002 to 2019 raises a fair question: can one part really suit an early bike and one built well over a decade later? In Accossato's catalogue it does, and the reason is that a brake lever has to match the master cylinder, not the frame, the engine or the bodywork. When Suzuki reworked the V-Strom 1000 for 2014, a great deal of the motorcycle changed, yet this listing carries straight on. For owners that is practical news. A rider who has moved from a first-generation V-Strom 1000 to a later one can keep the lever set-up they are used to, and someone reviving an early bike can buy a new lever rather than search for a used original. It is still worth a look at your own machine before ordering. A previous owner may have fitted a different master cylinder, and in that case the original listing no longer tells the whole story.
Fitment and Compatibility
This lever is offered for the Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom from 2002 to 2019, under both the DL 1000 and the DL 1000 V-Strom names in Accossato's list, and it mounts on the original master cylinder. Accossato's list keeps the model going a little longer than Suzuki did; as the V-Strom 1050 had taken over by then, we have limited this product to the years in which the DL1000 was actually built. For the left hand, the ESS014 clutch lever covers the V-Strom 1000 over the same years. The later V-Strom 1050 appears as a separate product and is not covered by this one.
Road Approval
A German ABE has not been documented for the EDF014, and we sell it for use on the track.
