DescriptionThe whole story▼
Suzuki's Bandit 650 has always been an honest motorcycle: an inline-four in a straightforward chassis, sold as the naked Bandit or the half-faired S, and ridden by its owners through every season. For many of them that includes autumn on country roads, when tractors carry mud from the fields onto the tarmac. Accossato's EDF014 is a brake lever for the GSF650 Bandit, listed for 2005 to 2012 and again for 2015. It is machined from aluminium, fits the original master cylinder and can be set closer to the grip or further away.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Suzuki GSF650 Bandit, 2005 to 2012 and 2015
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjuster beside the pivot for the reach
- Standard blade about 138 mm, plus short and long in selected colours
- Machined aluminium, anodised
- Black hub with a blade in one of seven colours
- Rigid, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF014 is made by machining aluminium on CNC equipment rather than casting it, and it is anodised once the machining is finished. The hub, which contains the pivot and the reach adjuster, stays black in every version, while the blade is anodised in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. An anodised surface is hard and closed, so the dirt and spray of a country road wash off with water and a soft brush. There is no hinge in the lever; hub and blade are a single rigid piece.
Mud at Harvest Time
From late summer into autumn, farm traffic leaves its mark on rural roads. Tractors pull out of fields and drop clods of earth, straw and wet clay at gateways and junctions, and after rain a smear of mud can be as slippery as ice. Warning signs help, but the smear is often waiting just around the next bend. The Bandit's front tyre copes with a surprising amount if the bike is upright and the brakes are off; what it cannot cope with is hard braking in the middle of the slick. So brake before it, early and progressively, while the tyre is still on clean tarmac, then roll across with the bars steady and pick up speed once you are clear. Near field entrances and farmyards, ride slower than the road would otherwise suggest. That kind of riding asks for small, controlled inputs at the lever. Set the reach on your Bandit 650 so the blade sits under your fingers without a stretch.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF014 for the GSF 650 Bandit from 2005 to 2012 and once more for 2015; the years 2013 and 2014 are not part of the listing. The lever replaces the stock part on the original master cylinder. For the clutch side, Accossato offers the ESS014 over the same years. Gold, orange, blue and green blades are made in all three lengths, silver in standard and short, black and red in standard only.
Road Approval
We have no documented German ABE for this lever, so it is sold for track use.
