DescriptionThe whole story▼
Walk through the paddock at a club race meeting and there is a fair chance you will see rows of Suzuki SV650s. Since 1999 the V-twin has taken riders from their first commute to their first race licence, and in several countries whole race classes have been built around it. On a bike that spends its weekends on a circuit, the front brake lever is a working tool. The Accossato EDF014 is a CNC-machined aluminium lever for the SV650 and the half-faired SV650 S, adjustable for reach and made in three lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the SV650, listed 1999 to 2022, and the SV650 S, 1999 to 2015
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Short blade for two-finger braking in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
- Standard blade (approximately 138 mm) in all seven colours, long blade in four
- Reach adjustable at the pivot
- Machined from aluminium, anodised, black hub
- One-piece fixed blade
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Consistency is what racers ask of their controls, and it starts with how a part is made. The EDF014 is cut on CNC machines from aluminium, which keeps every lever true to the same dimensions, and it is then anodised: the colour sits in a hard oxide layer that forms part of the surface. The hub, carrying the pivot and the adjuster, is black; the blade is coloured. There is no folding joint. From hub to tip the lever is a single stiff part, so what the fingers feel comes from the brake and not from a hinge.
From Commuter to Club Racer
Racers set up their levers differently from road riders. Most brake with one or two fingers, keep the rest of the hand on the throttle, and want the blade to come to the same place on every lap, whatever the tyre temperature or the state of their gloves. The short EDF014 suits that style: it ends before the ring finger, so the hand can hold the throttle steady while braking into a corner and blip it on the downshift. The adjuster sets the blade so that it meets the fingers at the point where the brake begins to bite, which is where a racer wants the feel to be. Because the lever is sold for track use, it belongs naturally in that world, and it comes from a company whose experience with brake discs was gained in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. Riders who keep their SV650 on the road will find the standard or long blade easier to live with from day to day.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDF014 is listed by Accossato for the SV650 from 1999 to 2022 and for the SV650 S from 1999 to 2015, fitted in each case to the original master cylinder. The clutch side is split: the ESS650 applies to SVs from 1999 to 2015, the ESS248 to the SV650 of 2016 to 2022. Check the model year of your SV650 before ordering a pair, so that both levers match the bike.
Road Approval
This brake lever has no documented German ABE and is therefore sold for racing and track days.
