This is the Fade Red Black reversed — black ground with red emerging rather than red fading to black. The difference sounds cosmetic and changes both how the helmet reads and how it wears.

The SHARP rating this helmet does not have

🔵 Absence of a rating is not evidence of poor performance — SHARP tests a small subset of the market and buys helmets at retail to do it. Plenty of good helmets have never been through it.

What matters here is not confusing this helmet with the Nexx Y100, which does have five stars and is a different model — SHARP lists it in sizes XS–XL, where the Y.100R runs XS–XXL.

About the Fade Black Red graphic

Which end of a gradient carries the dark value decides where the helmet shows dirt, and it decides how it reads at speed. With black dominant, this version is the quieter of the two and the better at hiding road film across most of the shell — the red is an accent rather than a field. It also keeps the eye on the shell's outline, which on a helmet with a genuinely functional aero profile is arguably the right emphasis. 🔵 The trade is conspicuity: this is meaningfully less visible in flat light than the red-dominant version. On a helmet ridden year-round in traffic, that is worth weighing.

Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS

Dual-EPS is worth a sentence because it is the part of the protective structure that actually absorbs energy. Two densities of polystyrene, working together, distribute an impact across a wider area than a single uniform block would.

🔵 A crushed EPS liner does not recover. After a real impact the helmet is finished, whatever it looks like from outside.

X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds

A Pinlock® 70 MaxVision anti-fog lens comes with the helmet. „MaxVision" means it covers the full width of the aperture rather than leaving a clear border top and bottom, which is where fogging actually starts at low speed.

🔵 The lens is a consumable — the silicone seal loses grip and the surface clouds after a few seasons.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

🔵 Ultraviolet exposure through a clear visor is real and cumulative. A clear visor blocks a large share of UV but not all of it, and a sun shield filtering 99 % is a meaningful addition on long summer rides rather than a comfort feature alone.

It deploys on an external, glove-operable button.

Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures

🔵 Do not compare decibel figures across publications. Method, speed, motorcycle and screen all change the number, and there is no standard for helmet noise measurement.

The Y.100R's ~100 dB and 4/5 score come from one independent road test, where they placed it well — and notably ahead of Nexx's own adventure helmets in the same reviewer's testing.

Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement

🔵 In stationary traffic no helmet ventilates well, this one included — airflow needs airflow. Where the Y.100R does well is at road speed, which is the condition it was shaped for.

Interior, retention and fit

Two outer shell sizes do the coarse fitting; the padding does the fine. Measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and compare against the chart on this page.

🔵 Between two sizes most riders take the larger one on this helmet — but a helmet you can rotate on your head by hand is too big, whatever the tape says.

Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 Compare this against a composite helmet honestly. A fibreglass or carbon shell of equal strength would be 100–250 g lighter and cost two to three times as much. That is the entire argument, and it is a legitimate one in both directions.

The Y.100R weighs 1617 g measured in size M, against a claim of 1575 g ±50.

🔵 If an independent safety rating is part of your decision, note that no Nexx helmet currently has one — SHARP has not tested the Y.100R, the X.WST3, the X.RALLY or the X.WED3.

Comms, camera and spare parts

Moulded night-vision reflectors are built into the shell rather than applied as stickers, which means they will still be there in five years — on a helmet used in city traffic at night, functional rather than decorative.
