Fullblack is the cheapest Y.100R by a clear margin and the only version without a graphic. Same shell, same visor system, same sun visor, same spoiler as everything above it — matt black paint and nothing else.

The SHARP rating this helmet does not have

🔵 An important clarification before anything else. SHARP, the UK Department for Transport's programme, lists a five-star „Nexx Y100" — and that is a different model. Its entry gives sizes XS–XL, where this helmet runs XS–XXL. There is no SHARP entry for the Y.100R.

Five stars from a predecessor do not transfer to a successor, and we are not going to let them drift onto this page. This helmet is untested rather than badly rated.

About the Fullblack matt finish

There is a straightforward case for the plain version on a helmet at this price: you are buying the engineering rather than the artwork, and the engineering is identical across the range. Matt black also suits the Y.100R's shape, which is more restrained than its graphics suggest — a wind-tunnel-derived profile with a double-blade spoiler rather than an aggressive streetfighter shell. Flat black shows the outline instead of drawing highlights along it. 🔵 It is the least conspicuous version here, and it holds dust and dried water spots more visibly than gloss. Matt clear coat is washed, never polished — there is nothing to buff a mark out of.

Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS

The shell is Polyfusion, a thermoplastic rather than a fibreglass or carbon composite, shaped through aerodynamic and wind-tunnel work for stability and sound damping at speed. It comes in two outer shell sizes (XS–M / L–XXL).

🔵 Thermoplastic is the correct construction at this price and it is not a compromise on approval: the helmet meets ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015.

X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds

X-SWIFT is the tool-free quick-release visor system: a full change in under eight seconds, no screws, no base plates to line up. On a helmet with a second visor in the box, that is a feature you will actually use.

Visor options include a yellow HD visor to lift contrast in low light and a silver iridium to cut glare in bright sun.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

The internal drop-down sun visor filters 99 % of UV and is operated by an external button designed to be worked with gloves on — which is the detail that decides whether a sun visor gets used or ignored.

🔵 It also removes any need for a tinted outer visor, and a dark visor is not road-legal at night in most of Europe anyway.

Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures

The double-blade rear spoiler is a performance part rather than a styling cue: it optimises airflow behind the shell and reduces turbulence at speed, keeping the helmet settled where a plainer shape would start to move around.

🔵 The measured result supports it — an independent road test recorded around 100 dB and scored noise 4/5, which the reviewer called impressive for the price.

Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement

Ventilation is modest on paper — two intakes and two exhausts — and works with the dual-EPS structure to keep air moving around the head at speed.

🔵 The measured result is better than the count suggests: an independent road test recorded a zero-degree interior-to-ambient temperature delta and scored ventilation 4 out of 5.

Interior, retention and fit

The liner is X-Mart Dry — anti-allergic and anti-bacterial — and everything comes out, including the thick neck roll. The cheek pads carry Emergency-Strap pulls so first responders can remove them without forcing the helmet past the jaw.

🔵 Comfort scored 3/5 in independent testing, with the fit described as perfect for that reviewer's head — intermediate-to-round oval.

Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list

Nexx quotes 1575 g ±50. An independent reviewer weighed a size M and recorded 1617 g — at the top of the stated tolerance, which is a fair claim rather than an exaggerated one.

🔵 The honest list: no SHARP rating (the five-star „Y100" is a different, older model), comfort scored 3/5, and a thermoplastic shell that is heavier than a composite of equal strength.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

The Y.100R sits at the accessible end of Nexx's road range: a thermoplastic sport full-face rather than a composite one. Above it, the X.WST3 is the composite streetfighter with an Anti-Vibration EPS and a functional spoiler, at roughly twice the price.

🔵 The Y.100R is the better value; the X.WST3 is the better helmet. Both are honest statements.

Comms, camera and spare parts

The X-COM3 system integrates into the shell — speakers, battery, cable slots, microphone and Bluetooth 5 — in Standard and PRO versions, the PRO adding 2.0 Mesh networking and Harman Kardon sound. Side action-camera mounts are built in.

🔵 Neither the comms system nor a camera is supplied. Moulded night-vision reflectors are standard.
