DescriptionThe whole story▼
The matt black Nippon is the quietest way to have this graphic. The design is fully present and carried entirely in tone rather than colour, which suits a helmet whose shape was derived in a wind tunnel rather than sketched.
The SHARP rating this helmet does not have
SHARP does not test every helmet, and the Y.100R is one it has not reached. What confuses the picture is that a helmet with an almost identical name — the Nexx Y100 — is in the database with five stars, listed in sizes XS–XL.
🔵 Different model, different entry, different size range. The rating does not apply here and we will not imply that it does.
About the Nippon Black finish
Tonal graphics — a design executed in values of one colour rather than in several — age considerably better than coloured ones, because there is no palette that can date. On this shell the effect is that the helmet reads as a plain matt black lid at distance and resolves into the Nippon design up close, which is the same restraint the Urbangram Black offers with a different drawing. Matt also absorbs the handling marks a daily helmet accumulates. 🔵 It is among the least conspicuous versions here, and matt clear coat is washed rather than polished — there is nothing to buff a scuff out of.
Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS
🔵 Thermoplastic shells have one genuine advantage over composites that rarely gets mentioned: consistency. Injection moulding produces near-identical shells, where a hand-laid composite depends on the person laying it up.
The Y.100R's is Polyfusion in two outer sizes, over dual-EPS, meeting ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC and NBR.
X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds
🔵 The most useful thing about a sub-eight-second visor change is not speed, it is that you will do it. A helmet with a second visor and a slow mechanism effectively has one visor.
Nexx supplies the second visor, the Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens, a nose guard and a wind deflector with the helmet.
The sun visor and its glove-friendly button
The shield drops far enough to clear glare from the road surface as well as from the sky, which is the more common problem on wet tarmac in low sun. It retracts fully so it is not sitting in your upper field of view when raised.
🔵 99 % UV filtration; external operating button sized for gloves.
Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures
The double-blade arrangement gives the spoiler two surfaces to work the airflow rather than one, which is what allows a relatively small spoiler to do useful work. It is a road-speed device: below about 80 km/h it does very little.
🔵 Measured noise at 130 km/h: around 100 dB, scored 4/5.
Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement
🔵 If you ride in traffic in summer, ventilation is the specification you will notice most. The Y.100R measured better here than Nexx's considerably more expensive adventure helmets did in the same reviewer's testing.
Two intakes, two exhausts, dual-EPS air path, zero-degree interior delta, scored 4/5.
Interior, retention and fit
🔵 Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. A loose helmet moves under braking and rotates in a crash; a tight one produces a headache at forty minutes.
Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. Independent testing scored comfort 3/5 and found the fit intermediate-to-round oval.
Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list
At 215 € the Y.100R is competing against helmets that supply one visor and no anti-fog lens. It supplies two visors, a Pinlock lens, a nose guard and a wind deflector, and adds an internal sun visor.
🔵 What it does not do is weigh little: 1617 g measured in size M, against a 1575 g ±50 claim.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
The equipment level is the argument for this helmet and the shell is the argument against it. Two visors, a Pinlock lens, an internal sun visor, a nose guard, a wind deflector, camera mounts and X-COM3 provision — on a thermoplastic shell weighing around 1.6 kg.
🔵 Decide which of those two facts matters more to your riding.
Comms, camera and spare parts
Bluetooth 5 in both X-COM3 versions is the connection standard rather than the feature set. What separates PRO from Standard is 2.0 Mesh networking — which lets a group stay connected without pairing every rider to every other — and Harman Kardon audio.
🔵 Both are separate purchases from the helmet.

“Built around its airflow: a big top intake, a dual EPS chamber that actually routes the air, and owners who report it staying bearable above 30 degrees. The weight is the trade, and 1,575 g is on the heavy side of this list.”
