Gold on black is the most expensive-looking finish in a range that costs 215 €, and that is entirely deliberate. It is the version that borrows its visual language from helmets three times the price.

The SHARP rating this helmet does not have

🔵 Two helmets, two names, one letter apart. Y100 is SHARP-rated at five stars — August 2025, ECE 22.06, 1.6 kg, sizes XS–XL. Y.100R — this one — has no SHARP entry at all.

They are separate models and the rating does not carry across. Everything else on this page is documented; that one figure simply does not exist for this model.

About the Subsonic Black Gold graphic

Gold works against black for the same reason it works against carbon: it is the one accent colour with a value far enough above a dark ground to create real contrast without introducing a competing hue. On the Subsonic's angular shapes it traces the direction of the graphic cleanly rather than filling areas, which is why the effect reads as detailing rather than as a paint job. 🔵 It is also the version most likely to look dated if gold falls out of fashion — the monochrome Fade will not. Conspicuity is low: gold is a small-area accent, and the ground is black.

Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS

🔵 Compare this against a composite helmet honestly. The Y.100R is heavier than a fibreglass equivalent and considerably heavier than carbon — and it costs a fraction of either. That is the trade, and for a rider doing an hour a day it is usually the right one.

X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds

🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. On this helmet the question largely disappears — the internal sun visor handles glare behind a clear outer visor.

Both supplied visors are clear, and one carries a Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

The sun shield mechanism is the part of a helmet most likely to develop a rattle, and an externally operated one is easier to check and clean than a recessed slider. Nexx's sits on the shell where you can reach it.

🔵 The shield filters 99 % of UV and retracts fully out of the field of view.

Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures

Two riders will describe the same helmet completely differently, and neither will be wrong: height, riding position, screen and shoulder airflow change the result more than the shell does.

🔵 The one comparable figure is the measured one: around 100 dB at 130 km/h, scored 4 out of 5.

Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement

🔵 Ventilation and noise usually pull against each other: openings that let air in also let sound in. Scoring 4/5 on both suggests the intake shaping is genuinely well resolved rather than merely adequate.

The system is two intakes and two exhausts, working with a dual-EPS internal air path.

Interior, retention and fit

Washing the interior is worth doing more often than most riders do. Sweat breaks down foam over time, and a liner washed a few times a season lasts appreciably longer than one that never is.

🔵 On the Y.100R everything comes out by hand: cheek pads, crown pad, neck roll and chin-strap covers.

Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 Weight matters most at the end of a long day and least in the first ten minutes, which is why it is the specification most often underweighted when buying. At around 1.6 kg, the Y.100R is a commuting and weekend helmet rather than a touring one.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

Buying the plain Fullblack rather than a graphic saves 40 € and changes nothing else — same shell, same visor system, same sun visor, same spoiler, same approvals.

🔵 That is worth knowing if the budget is tight: the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive Y.100R is entirely paint.

Comms, camera and spare parts

Genuine parts matter more on a helmet than on most things, because the visor and the retention system are part of what was certified to ECE 22-06. A pattern visor with different optical properties is not the helmet that was approved.
