Red into black is the most conventional Fade and the one most people picture when they picture a sport helmet. It is also, measurably, among the more conspicuous versions in this range against grey tarmac.

The SHARP rating this helmet does not have

🔵 A pass mark and a rating are different things. ECE 22-06 is a pass mark — every helmet sold in Europe must meet it, and this one does, along with DOT, CCC and NBR.

A SHARP star rating is comparative and this helmet has none. The five-star entry under „Nexx Y100" describes a different model, listed at 1.6 kg in sizes XS–XL.

About the Fade Red Black graphic

Red is a high-saturation colour that holds up well against the greys and blacks of a road environment, which puts it among the more visible options here without going fluorescent. On a helmet used mostly on public roads that is a real argument rather than a styling one. The gradient into black at the rear also does something practical: the darker area is where road spray and insect strike concentrate, so the dirt lands where it shows least. 🔵 Red pigment fades faster than most under sustained ultraviolet, and a helmet left on a bike through a summer will lose depth. Keep it out of direct sun when parked.

Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS

🔵 A thermoplastic shell is not a lesser shell, it is a different manufacturing route. Injection moulding gives consistency and low cost; hand-laid composite gives lower weight for the same strength. Which matters more depends on your budget and how long your rides are.

The Y.100R uses Polyfusion in two outer shell sizes, over a dual-EPS liner, certified to ECE 22-06.

X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds

Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

🔵 Wet it first, every time. A second visor is supplied with the helmet, so a scratched one is an inconvenience rather than a problem.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

Sunset on a westbound road is the condition that decides whether a sun visor was worth having, and it is precisely the condition a fixed tinted visor handles badly — because half an hour later it is dark and you cannot see through it.

🔵 A drop-down shield retracts in a second. This one filters 99 % of ultraviolet and is operated externally.

Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures

Stability and quiet come from the same place on a helmet: a shell that does not generate turbulence in the first place. Nexx's answer here is a wind-tunnel-shaped Polyfusion shell plus a double-blade spoiler managing the wake.

Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement

🔵 Ventilation on a road helmet has to work at speed with the visor sealed, which is a different problem from an adventure helmet's low-speed cooling. The Y.100R is tuned for the former, and the measured result reflects that.

Interior, retention and fit

Retention is a micrometric ratchet buckle rather than a double-D ring — the right choice on a road helmet put on and taken off twice a day, because it is quick, adjustable in fine steps and workable in gloves.

🔵 A ratchet needs its adjustment checked occasionally in a way a double-D does not. Chin-strap covers are removable.

Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list

A manufacturer's weight claim landing inside its own stated tolerance is more common than it should be to have to praise, but it is worth noting: 1575 g ±50 claimed, 1617 g measured.

🔵 Nexx's adventure helmets have not always managed that. This one did.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

If you ride an hour a day, the Y.100R's weight is irrelevant and its equipment level is exceptional. If you ride six hours at a time, the 100–250 g a composite shell would save becomes the deciding factor.

🔵 That is the whole calculation, and it is worth making honestly before choosing.

Comms, camera and spare parts

Side action-camera mounts are built into the shell rather than sold as an adhesive kit, which on a helmet with a wind-tunnel-derived profile matters — a stick-on mount in the wrong place undoes the aerodynamic work.
