DescriptionThe whole story▼
Matt indigo is the most unusual finish in the Y.100R range — a deep blue with the shine taken out of it, which is a combination almost nobody offers at this price.
The SHARP rating this helmet does not have
The name similarity here is genuinely misleading and worth spelling out. Nexx Y100 is a SHARP-tested helmet with five stars. Nexx Y.100R is the helmet on this page, and SHARP has never tested it.
🔵 That entry is dated August 2025, to ECE 22.06, at 1.6 kg, with sizes listed as XS–XL. Anyone quoting it for a Y.100R has read the wrong entry. We would rather tell you that than benefit from the confusion.
About the Urbangram Indigo Blue finish
Matt and deep colour together are difficult to produce and easy to get wrong; the result here works because indigo is dark enough to carry a flat finish without looking chalky. It is also, practically, the best of both worlds on a daily helmet: matt absorbs the handling marks a helmet picks up between the garage and the office, and a mid-dark blue hides road film better than black does — a grey film reads as haze on black and disappears on navy. 🔵 Like every matt finish it is washed rather than polished, and it shows dry dust more readily than gloss. Conspicuity sits between the blacks and the pale versions.
Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS
Two outer shell sizes is fewer than the three or four a premium helmet uses, and it is the most visible economy in this helmet. An XS in the smaller shell is well proportioned; an XXL in the larger one is too.
🔵 The sizes at the boundaries — a small M or a large L — carry slightly more or less padding than they would in a three-shell range. Try the helmet on rather than ordering by tape alone.
X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds
Two visors are supplied with this helmet, which at this price is unusual — most helmets in this bracket supply one and sell the rest. Combined with X-SWIFT's sub-eight-second change, that is a genuinely usable two-visor setup.
🔵 A Pinlock 70 MaxVision anti-fog lens is also included.
The sun visor and its glove-friendly button
An internal sun visor at this price is not a given, and it is the single feature that makes this a genuinely usable everyday helmet rather than a fair-weather one. It deploys and retracts in a second, filters 99 % of UV, and needs no second visor to be carried.
The external operating button is sized for gloves.
Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures
Wind-tunnel work on a helmet at this price is unusual, and it shows in the shape rather than in the graphics — the profile is smoother and less decorated than the liveries suggest, because the shape came first.
The rear spoiler carries two blades rather than one, working the wake behind the helmet. Measured noise: around 100 dB, scored 4/5.
Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement
🔵 A caution about vent counts generally. Manufacturers count differently and openings are not equal — and this helmet is the clearest illustration we have. Two intakes here measured a zero-degree interior delta, where seven intakes on Nexx's own adventure helmet measured worse.
Count is not the specification that matters; placement and internal path are.
Interior, retention and fit
Emergency-Strap cheek pads are the safety feature riders never think about. Red pulls let a first responder draw the pads out of the helmet, so it can be lifted off an injured rider without being forced past the jaw — far less movement of the head and neck.
Everything else in the interior comes out too, including the chin-strap covers.
Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list
Weight is where a thermoplastic shell costs you, and it is worth being direct about it. At around 1.6 kg this is heavier than a fibreglass helmet of the same size and considerably heavier than carbon — and it costs a fraction of either.
🔵 For a rider doing an hour a day that trade is usually right. For six-hour days it is worth reconsidering.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
🔵 Within the Y-range the picture is simple. The Y.100 is the same platform without the sport bodywork; the Y.100R adds the wind-tunnel profile and the double-blade spoiler. The Y.10 is the open-face jet on a related shell.
All three use Polyfusion thermoplastic rather than composite.
Comms, camera and spare parts
The box is unusually full for the price: helmet, Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens, a second visor, a nose guard and a wind deflector. Most helmets in this bracket supply the helmet and sell the rest.🔵 The nose guard and wind deflector are both removable and both worth fitting in winter.
