DescriptionThe whole story▼

Older middleweights make good track bikes for the simple reason that nobody minds if they get scratched. A Benelli Leoncino 500 from 2016 or 2017 that has lost its mirrors and number plate and gained a set of tyre warmers is a familiar sight in a club paddock. Once a machine only ever runs inside a fence, its parts are chosen by a different rule, and the front pads turn into consumables. Accossato's EV2 racing compound in the AGPA96 shape belongs on that list.

Key Features

  • Front brake pads for the Benelli Leoncino 500 of 2016 and 2017
  • AGPA96EV2: the AGPA96 shape filled with the EV2 racing compound
  • Accossato counts this material among its racing products
  • Suited to a bike that is trailered to the circuit and ridden there
  • Two pads in a box, which fills a single caliper
  • Establish the caliper count at the front before ordering spares
  • For a 2018 or later Leoncino 500 the front pad is the AGPA112
  • No German ABE on record; competition and track use

Construction and Material Quality

Five materials share the AGPA96 outline, and EV2 racing sits at the sharp end of them. Accossato says no more about it than that it is a top compound for racing, which in a paddock is usually enough: what riders want to know is how a pad behaves over a session, and that is learned rather than read. The company has been in the brake business since it started out in Moncalieri, and it writes for an audience that will find out for itself. The pads arrive two to a box, the number one caliper takes.

Life as a Consumable

Once a motorcycle stops being transport, the way you look after it changes. Nothing is left until it fails, because failing happens at the end of a straight with other riders close behind. A track-only Leoncino 500 gets a walk round before every session: a squeeze of the lever with the bike on its stand, a look at what is left of the friction material through the caliper mouth, a glance at the fluid, a hand run along the edge of the disc to feel for a lip. Pads go into the running costs of a season alongside tyres and oil, and a spare set travels in the van so that a worn one never becomes the reason to sit out an afternoon. Fit fresh pads before a meeting rather than during one, and give them a few gentle laps to bed in while you are still remembering where the circuit goes.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's entry for the AGPA96 covers the front of the Benelli Leoncino 500 in 2016 and 2017. A later bike takes the AGPA112 instead, which is worth knowing if the machine in your van was bought as a project with an uncertain history; the papers and the frame number settle it. The rear of these early bikes is listed as the AGPA42, and the DKS032 is the disc Accossato offers for the front wheel. One box serves one caliper, and a set that has done a season should be replaced across the axle rather than one side at a time.

Road Approval

No German ABE exists for the AGPA96EV2 as far as our documents reach, and none is claimed. The pad is sold for competition and for use on closed circuits.

Scope of Delivery

One box of two AGPA96 pads in the EV2 racing compound, the set for one front caliper.
