Plain Black is the entry point to the X.TR and the version where the shell's aerodynamics do the talking. Same locking visor, same sun visor, same Anti-Vibration EPS and the same spoiler as the carbon helmets above it.

Two independent tests — and where they disagree

Two independent tests exist for the X.TR and they disagree in interesting ways. A scored road test rated it 3.8/5 overall — ventilation 5/5 on a measured zero-degree interior delta, comfort 4/5, noise 3/5 at 103 dB.

🔵 A second hands-on test called the wind noise minimal and the helmet „remarkably comfortable out of the box" — while noting the same insulation gets stuffy in heat. Both are on this page rather than the flattering one.

About the gloss black finish

A sport-touring shell carries more visible structure than a plain road helmet — a rear spoiler, defined intake housings, a panoramic aperture — and gloss black reads all of it as one continuous surface with highlights running along the edges. On a large touring motorcycle that unity works better than a graphic would. The practical case is the familiar one: road film against dark clear coat is maximum contrast, and dry-wiping leaves permanent swirls. Wash it wet and dry it with a clean cloth. 🔵 It is also the least conspicuous version here, which on a helmet used for motorway distance in poor light is worth weighing.

The X-Matrix2 shell

This version uses the X-Matrix2 shell — a multiaxial fibreglass multi-composite — in three outer shell sizes (XXS–S / M–L / XL–XXXL). Claimed weight is 1750 g ±50.

🔵 Approvals are identical to the carbon version: ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015.

X-Block N'Seal — a visor that locks

The visor system is X-Block N'Seal combined with the Recoil mechanism: the visor locks closed and seals against wind and water rather than merely resting shut, and the aperture is panoramic for an unusually wide field of view.

A Pinlock® 120 XLT MaxVision lens comes fitted, and a second clear visor is in the box. 🔵 A photochromic visor is available as an option.

The ultra-wide sun visor

The internal sun visor is ultra-wide and drops to just above the bridge of the nose — that last centimetre is what stops low sun coming in under the edge, which is precisely when a sun visor matters.

🔵 It also means a tinted outer visor is unnecessary, and a dark visor is not road-legal at night in most of Europe anyway.

Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer

Anti-Vibration EPS places a rubber layer between the inner and outer EPS, letting the inner liner micro-move. On a touring helmet the target is fatigue: the fine, constant shimmer that turbulence transmits over a six-hour day.

🔵 It is a stability and comfort system rather than a rotational-impact one, and Nexx does not present it as the latter.

Two intakes, two chambers — and a 5/5 measurement

Ventilation is two intakes and two exhausts, plus the patented Mid Airflow Chamber between the EPS shells and the Air Cumbs cooling chamber in the crown pad.

🔵 The measured result is the best of any Nexx helmet independently tested: a zero-degree interior-to-ambient delta and a ventilation score of 5 out of 5.

Chin curtain, neck roll and how quiet it is

Quiet is what this helmet is built for, and the hardware behind it is unusual: a large chin curtain, an anti-noise neck roll and an aerodynamic rear spoiler working together.

🔵 The verdicts split. One test measured 103 dB at 130 km/h and scored 3/5; another, riding it, called the wind noise minimal and credited exactly that hardware.

Interior, retention and fit

The liner is X-Mart Dry, fully removable and washable, and F.R.S.® releases both cheek pads together without tools — for cleaning, and for safer emergency removal by first responders.

🔵 Comfort scored 4/5 and a second test called the helmet „remarkably comfortable out of the box". Fit was found true to size, intermediate oval.

1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list

Nexx quotes 1750 g ±50 for the X-Matrix2 shell. 🔵 No independent weigh-in exists for either X.TR shell, so treat both published figures as the manufacturer's.

The honest list: no SHARP rating, no ADAC or Snell result, measured noise of 103 dB, and a helmet that a second reviewer found stuffy in genuine heat.

Comms, camera and spare parts

The X-COM3 system integrates into the shell — speakers, battery, cable channels, microphone — with Mesh 3.0 / New Wave networking and Bluetooth. A side action-camera mount is built in.
