DescriptionThe whole story▼
Turquoise is the only genuinely unusual solid colour in the X.TR range and the reason some riders choose this helmet over its competitors. It is a colour rather than a graphic, which on a busy sport-touring shell is the more restrained choice.
Two independent tests — and where they disagree
The ventilation result is the strongest single number on this helmet: 5 out of 5, on a measured zero-degree interior-to-ambient delta — the best score of any Nexx helmet independently tested.
🔵 The counterweight comes from a different reviewer, who found the helmet's insulation makes it stuffy in genuinely hot weather. Both can be true: airflow at speed and heat retention at a standstill are different problems.
About the turquoise blue finish
Mid-saturation blues have aged better on helmets than almost any other hue — they belong to no particular decade, and they read as considered rather than as loud. On a shell with as much structure as this one, a single strong colour lets the shape stay the subject while still giving the helmet an identity. Practically, blue sits in the middle of the maintenance range: it holds less contrast against road film than black and shows less than white. 🔵 Conspicuity is better than the dark solids and well short of the neon graphics. On a touring helmet ridden into dusk, that middle ground is a reasonable place to be.
The X-Matrix2 shell
Three outer shell sizes is generous and it matters more on a touring helmet than on most — you will be wearing it for hours, and a shell one size too large sits badly on your neck as well as looking wrong.
XXS–S, M–L and XL–XXXL each get their own X-Matrix2 shell, at 1750 g ±50 claimed.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | multiaxial fibreglass multi-composite | 1750 g ±50 | Plain, Quanta |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1625 g | Rush, Zero Pro, Atlantic |
X-Block N'Seal — a visor that locks
A locking visor is the detail that separates this from most sport-touring helmets. X-Block N'Seal holds the visor closed positively rather than relying on detent friction, which matters at motorway speed and in heavy rain — the two conditions that lift an unlocked visor.
🔵 Combined with the Recoil spring-tensioned base plates, the seal is made by the mechanism rather than by how hard you push.
The ultra-wide sun visor
Sunset on a long westbound stretch is the condition that decides whether a sun visor was worth having — and it is precisely the condition a fixed tinted visor handles worst, because half an hour later it is dark.
🔵 A drop-down shield retracts in a second. This one is ultra-wide and reaches to just above the nose.
Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer
Most helmets treat the impact liner as one rigid block. The X.TR splits it and separates the halves with rubber, so the inner EPS can move a controlled amount under the turbulence a fast road helmet always generates.
🔵 The claimed result is a steadier head and a smoother ride — a distance quality rather than a first-impression one.
Two intakes, two chambers — and a 5/5 measurement
🔵 The honest counterweight to the 5/5 score. A separate hands-on test found the X.TR's insulation — the large chin curtain and neck roll that make it quiet — makes it stuffy in hot weather.
Both can be true: airflow at 130 km/h and heat retention in stationary traffic are different problems. A pale shell helps with the second.
Chin curtain, neck roll and how quiet it is
Perceived noise depends more on your motorcycle than on your helmet, which is the most likely reason for the split verdict here — a tall touring screen and a naked bike produce completely different results from the same shell.
🔵 The measurable figure is 103 dB at 130 km/h, scored 3/5. A second test called the noise minimal.
Interior, retention and fit
F.R.S.® — the Fast Release System — lets both cheek pads come out at once, tool-free. The everyday use is cleaning; the important one is emergency removal, where one action instead of two means less movement of an injured rider's head and neck.
The rest of the interior comes out separately, including the removable breath guard.
1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Weight matters most at the end of a long day and least in the first ten minutes, which is why it is the specification most often underweighted when buying a touring helmet.
🔵 At 1750 g ±50 claimed, the composite X.TR is mid-pack for its class. The carbon shell is quoted at 1625 g.
Comms, camera and spare parts
Spare parts are worth checking before buying any touring helmet, because you may need one a long way from home. For the X.TR, visors, Pinlock 120 XLT lenses, cheek pads, crown pads, chin-strap covers and the breath guard are all separately available.
🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished.
