The grey Rush is the most neutral of the carbon graphics and the one that will look current longest, because there is no palette to date. On a helmet bought for its shell rather than its paint, that is usually the right priority.

Two independent tests — and where they disagree

🔵 An honest note on scores. A scored road test rated this helmet 3.8 out of 5 — good rather than exceptional — with the marks split between an outstanding ventilation result and an average noise one.

A second reviewer disagreed sharply on the noise. Neither is a laboratory rating, and no SHARP entry exists for the X.TR.

About the Rush Grey Red graphic

Monochrome and near-monochrome graphics age far better than coloured ones for a straightforward reason: colours belong to seasons and values do not. A grey treatment carries no reference to a particular year's palette, so it stays legible as design rather than becoming a marker of when the helmet was bought. Grey is also the most practical value on a touring helmet — insect strike, road film and dried rain marks all show least against a mid tone. 🔵 Conspicuity is mid-range at best. For year-round riding into poor light, the neon version does considerably more.

The X-PRO Carbon shell

Three outer shell sizes across eight helmet sizes is what keeps the smallest X.TR in proportion. XXS–S, M–L and XL–XXXL each get their own carbon shell.

🔵 Claimed weight is 1625 g. No independent weigh-in exists for either shell in this model, so treat both figures as the manufacturer's.

X-Block N'Seal — a visor that locks

Spring-loaded base plates do something a detented mechanism cannot: they pull the visor into the seal continuously rather than holding it at a fixed position, so the seal stays effective as the beads compress with age.

🔵 On the X.TR that is combined with X-Block N'Seal, which locks the visor closed against wind and water.

The ultra-wide sun visor

A photochromic outer visor is available for this helmet as an alternative approach: it darkens with UV and clears at dusk, handling changing light without any lever at all.

🔵 The internal sun visor covers the same ground more cheaply and retracts instantly — the two are alternatives rather than a pair.

Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer

Splitting the impact liner and decoupling the halves with rubber costs weight, and Nexx made the trade deliberately — a heavier helmet in exchange for a steadier, less fatiguing one over distance.

🔵 That decision explains a good part of the 1750 g claimed figure for the composite shell.

Two intakes, two chambers — and a 5/5 measurement

Ventilation and noise usually pull against each other, and the X.TR is the clearest illustration in Nexx's range: it scored 5/5 for ventilation and 3/5 for measured noise, while a second reviewer called the noise minimal.

🔵 The insulation that produces the quiet is also what makes it warm at a standstill.

Chin curtain, neck roll and how quiet it is

103 dB is a measured number rather than an impression, which makes it the most useful figure here for comparing against another helmet — provided that helmet was measured the same way, at the same speed, on the same bike.

Interior, retention and fit

🔵 Why simultaneous cheek-pad release matters. Removing a helmet from someone with a possible neck injury is one of the highest-risk things a first responder does, and every extra manipulation adds movement.

1625 grams, and the rest of the honest list

The weight is structural rather than careless: two EPS shells with a rubber interlayer, a sun visor mechanism, a locking visor system and a rear spoiler. Carbon removes 125 g of shell and leaves all of that in place.

Comms, camera and spare parts

🔵 Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare part on any helmet and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with wear and solve a hot spot that would otherwise mean a different helmet entirely.
