DescriptionThe whole story▼
This is the plainest of the carbon helmets and the one where the shell itself is the finish. Exposed weave under a black tint, no graphic over it — if you are paying for carbon, this is the version that lets you see it.
Three modes in one shell
The three-mode idea only works if the mounts are properly engineered, and this is where the X.RALLY differs from helmets with a bolt-on peak. The Recoil visor mechanism works independently of the peak mount, so removing one does not loosen or misalign the other.
That is the difference between a designed system and an accessory.
| Mode | Peak | Eye protection | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual-Sport | fitted | Recoil visor | mixed days, low sun, spray |
| Off-Road | fitted | goggles (not supplied) | trail and enduro, maximum airflow |
| On-Road | removed | Recoil visor | motorway transfers — the quietest setting |
About the PRO Carbon Black finish
Exposed carbon is a finish with a specific problem and a specific appeal. The appeal is obvious: the weave is the most honest expression of what the shell is made of, and it looks like nothing else. The problem is that it cannot be repaired — a deep scratch through the lacquer into the weave is permanent, where a painted shell can be touched in. Black-tinted weave hides that better than clear does, which makes this the more practical of the two exposed-carbon options. 🔵 It is also the least visible helmet in the whole X.RALLY range, on a helmet type frequently ridden in places with no street lighting.
The X-PRO Carbon shell and the X-Foam bumpers
This version uses the X-PRO Carbon shell — the lighter of the two constructions, at a claimed 1350 g against the composite shell's 1475 g.
Over the whole lower shell, including the chin, sit X-Foam EPP bumpers: an ultralight foam layer intended to absorb impact energy where the shell meets the ground first and to reduce collarbone injury risk.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | six-layer fibreglass composite | 1475 g | Plain, YUMA |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) | PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 |
The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box
🔵 In Off-Road mode the visor comes off entirely and goggles take over, which means the goggles carry the anti-fog and tint duties. Choose them with that in mind; the aperture is generous but frames differ.
In the other two modes the Recoil system runs either the clear visor with its fitted Pinlock lens or the supplied photochromic shield.
Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them
In Off-Road mode the ventilation question largely answers itself: with the visor removed and goggles in place, the aperture is the largest air intake on the helmet and no vent design competes with it.
🔵 The contested measurements — 2/5 on a 3 °C delta against „open-face-like" in a road test — both refer to the visored configuration.
How loud it actually is
Neck tubes and collars do more for perceived noise than most riders expect, because a surprising proportion of it enters from underneath the chin bar rather than around the visor.
🔵 The X.RALLY's measured figure of 103 dB, scored 3/5, was taken in the standard configuration. A closed collar will improve on it.
Interior, hydration routing and fit
Removable chin-strap covers sound trivial until you have washed a helmet that does not have them. Everything that touches skin on the X.RALLY comes out: liner, cheek pads and strap covers.
🔵 On an adventure helmet that matters more than usual — the interior takes dust and sweat rather than sweat alone.
1350 grams claimed, 1553 measured
🔵 The number that matters most on this page. Nexx quotes 1350 g for the X-PRO Carbon shell. An independent road test put one on a scale in size M and recorded 1553 g — more than 200 g over the published figure.
Both numbers are here because you should have both. 1553 g is still a reasonable weight for a three-mode adventure helmet; it is not the featherweight the brochure describes.
Where it sits — and who should buy something else
Between the two shells the gap is 125 g on paper and a noticeable step in price, with no difference in approvals, modes, visor system, ventilation or interior.
🔵 The graphic families follow the shells: YUMA decors are on X-Matrix2, Raid and the carbon-weave finishes on X-PRO Carbon. Choosing a decor means choosing a construction.
Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts
🔵 Intercom fit is worth checking before you buy the intercom. The X.RALLY has ear recesses and a mount slot sized for standard universal units — but speaker depth varies between brands, and a speaker that presses on your ear over a long day is the usual reason riders abandon a system.
Camera provision is separate again: top, side and four-position chin mounts, sold as a kit.
