DescriptionThe whole story▼
Grey with light blue is the quietest of the six YUMA colourways — a cool, low-saturation pairing that reads as considered rather than sporting. It is the one that looks least like a race replica and most like equipment.
Three modes in one shell
🔵 The mode you choose changes the noise more than any other decision you make about this helmet. Independent measurement put the X.RALLY at 103 dB with the peak fitted; removing it for On-Road mode is the single most effective thing you can do about that.
Fit it again when the surface stops being tarmac.
| Mode | Peak | Eye protection | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual-Sport | fitted | Recoil visor | mixed days, low sun, spray |
| Off-Road | fitted | goggles (not supplied) | trail and enduro, maximum airflow |
| On-Road | removed | Recoil visor | motorway transfers — the quietest setting |
About the YUMA Grey Blue graphic
Low-saturation colours have aged far better on helmets than bright ones, and the reason is that they carry no reference to a particular season's palette. A grey and pale blue helmet will look current in five years in a way a neon one will not. It also suits the current generation of adventure motorcycles, most of which are finished in muted greys and sands rather than in primary colours. Practically it sits in the middle of every scale here: better at hiding dirt than the whites, more visible than the blacks, and neither the coolest nor the warmest in sun. 🔵 A printed graphic cannot be touched in if chipped.
The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers
The X-Matrix2 shell holds four separate approvals: ECE 22-06 for Europe, DOT FMVSS 218 for the United States, CCC GB811:2022 for China and NBR7471:2015 for Brazil. For a helmet bought to be ridden across borders that is more useful than it sounds.
Six fibreglass layers, 1475 g claimed, X-Foam bumpers over the lower shell.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | six-layer fibreglass composite | 1475 g | Plain, YUMA |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) | PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 |
The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box
Spring-loaded base plates do something a detented mechanism cannot: they pull the visor into the seal continuously rather than holding it at a fixed position. That is why the Recoil system stays sealed as the beads compress with age.
Both a photochromic and a clear visor are supplied; the clear one arrives with a Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision lens fitted.
Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them
The Air Cumbs cooling chamber is Nexx's term for a managed volume inside the shell rather than a simple duct — the intention being to move heat away from where it collects rather than merely passing air over the crown.
🔵 Whether it delivers is the one specification on this helmet the independent sources cannot agree on: a measured 2/5 against a road impression of open-face-like airflow.
How loud it actually is
The quietest configuration of this helmet is On-Road mode, and it is worth trying once even if you normally ride with the peak. Removing it takes a minute and changes both the noise and the head buffeting noticeably.
🔵 With the peak fitted, independent measurement put the X.RALLY at 103 dB, scored 3/5.
Interior, hydration routing and fit
🔵 A double-D ring takes a moment longer than a ratchet and gives exactly the same tension every time, with no mechanism to fail and nothing that grit can jam. On a helmet used off-road that is the right choice, and the X-LOCK magnet solves the only real annoyance — the loose end.
The alloy is Pearaluman aluminium-magnesium, chosen for corrosion resistance.
1475 grams, and the rest of the honest list
A heavier shell is not automatically a worse one. Fibreglass composite absorbs energy differently from carbon and is considerably easier to repair cosmetically, which on a helmet that meets stones is a real argument.
🔵 What it is not is lighter: 1475 g claimed against the carbon shell's 1350 g, and both numbers are manufacturer figures rather than measured ones.
Where it sits — and who should buy something else
The eight sizes from XXS to XXXL across three outer shells is one of the widest ranges Nexx offers, and it is worth knowing if you are hard to fit — a great many adventure helmets stop at XS and XXL.
🔵 The helmet was independently found true to size, with an intermediate-to-long oval head shape.
Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts
Two visors, a fitted Pinlock lens, hydration routing, camera provision and universal intercom preparation — the X.RALLY is unusually complete out of the box for a helmet in this class.
🔵 What is not in the box: goggles for Off-Road mode, an intercom, and the camera mount kit. All three are separate purchases.
