DescriptionThe whole story▼
Grey with orange is the most practical combination in the YUMA family. Orange gives you the off-road world's most useful colour for being seen; grey gives you a ground that hides everything the trail throws at it.
Three modes in one shell
A helmet that reconfigures stays useful longer than one that does not, and the X.RALLY's three modes are a genuine reason to own one rather than two helmets. Peak and visor for mixed days; goggles for the trail; neither for the motorway.
The changeover takes about a minute and needs no tools.
| Mode | Peak | Eye protection | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual-Sport | fitted | Recoil visor | mixed days, low sun, spray |
| Off-Road | fitted | goggles (not supplied) | trail and enduro, maximum airflow |
| On-Road | removed | Recoil visor | motorway transfers — the quietest setting |
About the YUMA Grey Orange graphic
There is a measurable reason orange dominates off-road. Against the palette a rider is actually seen against — brown ground, green trees, grey sky — orange sits at close to the maximum available contrast, and the eye resolves it faster at distance than red. Setting it on grey rather than white is the clever part: the grey areas absorb the dust and spatter that would make a white helmet look neglected within a day, while the orange keeps doing its job. 🔵 Bright pigments fade fastest under UV; store the helmet out of direct sun and it will hold considerably longer.
The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers
Fibreglass composite in six layers gives Nexx something carbon does not: a shell that can be painted, chipped and touched in. On a helmet designed to meet stones, that is a practical argument rather than a consolation.
The construction is X-Matrix2 at 1475 g claimed, with X-Foam EPP bumpers across the whole lower shell and chin.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | six-layer fibreglass composite | 1475 g | Plain, YUMA |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) | PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 |
The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box
🔵 Consider the photochromic shield the default for European riding. It darkens under UV and clears indoors or at dusk, which removes the need to carry a second visor on a trip — and it comes with the helmet rather than as an accessory.
It works less well behind a car windscreen, where UV is filtered. The clear visor with its fitted Pinlock lens covers the rest.
Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them
🔵 A caution about vent counts generally. Manufacturers count differently, openings are not equal, and a helmet with nine intakes is not necessarily better ventilated than one with four — which is exactly what the split verdicts on this helmet demonstrate.
The X.RALLY has 9 intakes, 6 exhausts, cheek-pad ventilation, a mid air chamber, an Air Cumbs chamber and a winter chin vent. What that adds up to depends who measured it.
How loud it actually is
Two riders will describe the same helmet completely differently, and neither will be wrong: height, riding position, screen and shoulder airflow all change the result more than the shell does.
🔵 The one figure that is comparable is the measured one: 103 dB, scored 3/5 in an independent road test of this helmet.
Interior, hydration routing and fit
The 3D-mesh liner is doing two jobs that usually conflict: letting air through, and keeping dust and sand off the skin. On a helmet designed for hard enduro that combination is more useful than a plusher, denser padding would be.
🔵 It is fully removable and washable, which on an adventure helmet you will do far more often than on a road one.
1475 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Running On-Road mode removes the peak and with it a meaningful part of the perceived weight, because the load on your neck comes as much from aerodynamics as from mass.
🔵 The X-Matrix2 shell is quoted at 1475 g. Nexx's figures for this helmet run optimistic — the carbon version measured 1553 g against 1350 g claimed.
Where it sits — and who should buy something else
Where the X.RALLY sits against a dedicated motocross helmet: heavier, quieter, and usable on the road. Against a road helmet: louder, more ventilated, and capable off it. It is the middle option, and the mode system is how it moves between the two ends.
🔵 If your riding is genuinely one thing, a specialist helmet does that thing better.
Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts
🔵 Moulded night-vision reflectors are worth more than the stickers most helmets use, for one simple reason: they will still be there in five years. On a helmet ridden on unlit roads in unfamiliar places, that is functional rather than decorative.
Also built in: intercom recesses and a mount slot, and provision for the optional POV camera kit.
