DescriptionThe whole story

Black and red is the darkest YUMA and the one that reads as a road helmet with a peak rather than as a rally replica. For riders whose adventure bike spends most of its life on tarmac, that is the more honest signal.

Three modes in one shell

Worth planning which mode you will actually ride in most, because it changes which accessories you need. Dual-Sport needs nothing extra. Off-Road needs goggles. On-Road needs nothing but the discipline to take the peak off.

🔵 All three configurations are covered by the same ECE 22-06 approval — the peak is not part of what was certified.

Mode Peak Eye protection Best for
Dual-Sport fitted Recoil visor mixed days, low sun, spray
Off-Road fitted goggles (not supplied) trail and enduro, maximum airflow
On-Road removed Recoil visor motorway transfers — the quietest setting

About the YUMA Black Red graphic

Not every adventure bike goes off-road, and a great many are bought as tall, comfortable, long-legged road motorcycles. A dark graphic suits that use because it does not pretend otherwise. Red against black is also the pairing that survives dirt best of the six YUMA colourways — trail dust reads as a grey film on pale grounds and largely disappears on dark ones, so this is the version that still looks presentable at the end of a long trip. 🔵 Red pigment fades faster than most under sustained UV, and this is the least conspicuous YUMA in poor light.

The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers

🔵 The single decision that separates the two halves of the X.RALLY range is the shell. This is the X-Matrix2 version: six-layer fibreglass composite, 1475 g claimed, painted finish, and around 160 € less than the carbon equivalent.

Everything else — modes, Recoil visor, X-Foam bumpers, ventilation, interior, retention — is the same helmet.

Shell Construction Weight (Nexx) Decors From
X-Matrix2 six-layer fibreglass composite 1475 g Plain, YUMA 399,99 €
X-PRO Carbon carbon fibre 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 559,99 €

The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box

Visor changes are tool-free, which matters more on this helmet than most because you will be doing them — swapping to the photochromic shield for a bright day, or removing the visor entirely for Off-Road mode.

The Recoil base plates re-tension automatically each time; there is no adjustment to get wrong.

Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them

What ventilation actually manages is humidity rather than temperature — sweat that cannot evaporate stays in the liner, and a saturated liner ends a hot day early. The 3D-mesh interior is aimed at that as much as the vents are.

🔵 On measured cooling the record is split: 2/5 on a 3 °C delta in one test, „moves air like an open-face helmet" in another.

How loud it actually is

🔵 Earplugs are not an admission that a helmet is loud. Hearing damage from wind noise is cumulative and permanent, and it happens at speeds most riders consider ordinary. On a helmet measured at 103 dB they are simply part of the equipment.

The independent noise score was 3 out of 5 — average for the type.

Interior, hydration routing and fit

Three outer shell sizes cover XXS to XXXL (XXS–S / M–L / XL–XXXL), which does the coarse fitting before the padding is involved. Measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows.

🔵 Between two sizes, most riders take the larger one on this helmet — but it was independently found true to size, so start with the tape.

1475 grams, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 The honest list for this helmet. No SHARP rating exists — the programme has not tested the X.RALLY. No ADAC or Snell result either. The ventilation is contested between two independent tests. Noise measured 103 dB.

And the weight: 1475 g claimed for this shell, with the carbon version independently weighed 200 g above its own claim.

Where it sits — and who should buy something else

The FIM Racing #2 version sits at the top of this range and is the only one with FIM FRHPhe-02 homologation — a genuine functional difference rather than a livery. Everything below it shares the road approvals only.

🔵 If you do not compete under FIM rules, the other carbon versions use the same X-PRO Carbon shell for considerably less.

Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts

The four-position chin camera mount deserves a note, because most helmets that accept a chin camera accept it in exactly one place. Four positions lets you set the angle for the bike you are on rather than accepting whatever the mould gives you.

Alongside it: top and side mounts, and universal intercom provision with ear recesses and a mount slot.

“Full marks on airflow and off-road kit. The peak comes off for the road sections and the eye port takes goggles for the rest, which is exactly what an enduro helmet has to do. Only the weight keeps it from a clean sweep.”
