DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plain Black is the cheapest Y.TRAVL by 40 € and the version without a graphic. Same shell, same peak, same visor system, same sun visor and the same full box of accessories as everything above it.
Peak, aperture and the adventure compromise
An adventure helmet is a compromise by design, and it is worth knowing which way this one leans. The removable off-road peak and the wide aperture are what make the Y.TRAVL work off tarmac — and they are also what you notice at motorway speed.
🔵 Nexx's answer is an anti-vibration system in the peak that stops it lifting at higher speed. Physics still applies; the peak also comes off entirely for road-only days.
About the matt black finish
An adventure helmet is handled constantly — carried by the peak, strapped to a pannier, wiped with whatever is to hand at a fuel stop — and a flat finish absorbs that low-level marking far better than gloss, because there is no clear coat for a scuff to catch in. On a shell with as much surface as this one, that matters over years rather than months. 🔵 The trade is conspicuity, and this is the least visible version in the range on a helmet often ridden on unlit roads far from home. Matt also holds dry dust more visibly than gloss and is washed rather than polished — there is nothing to buff a mark out of.
Polyfusion, two shells and four approvals
The shell is Polyfusion thermoplastic with a slim, streamlined profile, in two outer shell sizes (XS–M / L–XXL) — which keeps the helmet in proportion rather than one shell being scaled across the whole range.
Approvals: ECE 22-06 (UN), DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2025.
The visor, the wide eye port and the second shield
The eye port is exceptionally wide, and the clear visor is optical class 1 with an anti-scratch coating. X-SWIFT changes it without tools.
The box is unusually full: a Pinlock® 70 MaxVision anti-fog lens, and a second visor in 80 % smoke tint. 🔵 That second visor is a daylight item — a dark tint is not road-legal at night in most of Europe.
The sun visor and its glove-friendly button
The internal drop-down sun visor blocks 99 % of UV and is operated by an external button designed to be worked with gloves on — which is the detail that decides whether a sun visor gets used or ignored.
🔵 It also makes the supplied smoke visor optional rather than necessary, and unlike a tinted visor it retracts the moment the light drops.
Two intakes, four exhausts — and a zero-degree measurement
Ventilation is two intakes and four exhausts, with channels in the EPS routing cool air around the head while hot air is drawn out at the rear by low pressure.
🔵 The measured result is better than the intake count suggests: an independent road test recorded a zero-degree interior-to-ambient delta and scored ventilation 4 out of 5.
How loud it actually is
Noise is measured rather than guessed: an independent road test recorded around 102 dB and scored the Y.TRAVL 3 out of 5, describing the figure as standard for an adventure helmet.
🔵 Removing the peak is the single most effective thing you can do about it, and earplugs on any long fast day are equipment rather than an accessory.
Interior, retention and fit
The liner is a 3D shape cut to work with glasses, fully removable and washable, with Emergency-Strap cheek pads so first responders can pull the pads out rather than forcing the helmet past the jaw.
🔵 Independent testing scored comfort 3/5 and described the liner as functional rather than plush. That is an honest description of a 200-euro adventure helmet.
Around 1.8 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list
Nexx quotes 1750 g ±50. An independent reviewer weighed a size M and recorded 1805 g — just outside the stated tolerance, and heavy by any standard.
🔵 The honest list: no SHARP rating, comfort scored 3/5, noise around 102 dB, and an overall independent verdict of 3.14 out of 5. Ventilation was the strong mark, at 4/5.
What is in the box, comms and spare parts
The box is unusually full for 200 €: helmet, Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens, off-road peak with extensor, a second visor in 80 % smoke, a nose guard, a wind deflector and side action-camera mounts.
🔵 The X-COM3 intercom integrates into the shell with built-in speakers, battery, cable channels, microphone and Bluetooth 5 — sold separately.

“The peak comes off and the kit is all there, but at 1,805 g this is not a helmet for a long day on the pegs. As a road-biased dual-sport lid at this price it makes more sense.”
