DescriptionThe whole story▼
Quest is the expedition-styled graphic family, and white with blue and red is its most traditional reading — the palette rally helmets have used since the discipline existed, for a reason that is about legibility rather than taste.
Peak, aperture and the adventure compromise
🔵 The useful question before buying is what proportion of your riding is unpaved. If the answer is „a few gravel tracks on the way to somewhere", this helmet is right. If it is „whole days off-road at pace", a composite adventure helmet with goggle provision is the better tool.
The Y.TRAVL is built for tarmac with detours rather than for trails with transfers.
About the Quest White Blue Red graphic
Three values as far apart as the palette allows — light, mid and dark — is what keeps a graphic readable through dust and at distance, which is why the same combination keeps reappearing on rally machinery. It also works particularly well on this shell, because the Y.TRAVL's profile is slimmer and more streamlined than most adventure helmets and a busy graphic would fight it. 🔵 The white areas show trail spray and road film sooner than the coloured ones, so the helmet weathers unevenly rather than uniformly between washes. A printed graphic cannot be touched in after a stone strike.
Polyfusion, two shells and four approvals
Two outer shell sizes across XS to XXL is what keeps the smallest Y.TRAVL from looking oversized — and on a helmet that already carries a peak, an out-of-proportion shell is immediately obvious.
The material is Polyfusion thermoplastic, shaped with a slim aerodynamic profile, certified to ECE 22-06 and three further market standards.
The visor, the wide eye port and the second shield
Two visors in the box — a clear one and an 80 % smoke tint — plus a Pinlock lens. That is an unusually complete optical package; most helmets in this bracket supply one visor and sell the rest.
🔵 Swapping between them takes seconds through the tool-free X-SWIFT mechanism.
The sun visor and its glove-friendly button
Sunset on a westbound road is the condition that decides whether a sun visor was worth having, and it is precisely the condition a fixed tinted visor handles worst — because half an hour later it is dark and you cannot see through it.
🔵 A drop-down shield retracts in a second. This one blocks 99 % of UV and works from an external button.
Two intakes, four exhausts — and a zero-degree measurement
More exhausts than intakes is deliberate. Airflow only happens if there is somewhere lower in pressure for the air to go, and four rear outlets against two front intakes keeps the path genuinely flowing rather than merely open.
🔵 The measured outcome was a zero-degree interior delta, scored 4/5.
How loud it actually is
Perceived noise depends more on your motorcycle than on your helmet, and adventure bikes make it worse: a tall screen putting turbulent air at head height will make any helmet loud, where clean air at the same speed will not.
🔵 Against that background the Y.TRAVL measured around 102 dB and scored 3/5.
Interior, retention and fit
The head shape is intermediate-to-long oval — longer front to back than side to side, which describes most European heads. Independent testing found the sizing true to the chart.
🔵 If your head is distinctly round, a long-oval shell will press at the temples. Try before you buy.
Around 1.8 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list
Weight on a peaked helmet is mass on a lever arm — the peak sits ahead of and above the centre of your head, in clean air, for as long as you hold it up. That is why an adventure helmet feels heavier than its number.
🔵 Removing the peak changes the perceived load more than the 55 g between the claim and the measurement does. Measured: 1805 g in size M.
What is in the box, comms and spare parts
The wind deflector supplied with this helmet closes the gap under the chin bar. It does more for noise than any other single item you can fit, because most perceived helmet noise enters from below rather than around the visor.
🔵 Fit it before judging the helmet on noise. It is in the box alongside the nose guard.
