The matt black and grey Primal is the quietest of the graphic versions — the drawing carried in tone with an orange accent, on a shell that is already slimmer than most adventure helmets.

Peak, aperture and the adventure compromise

The peak removes in seconds and the difference is larger than the specification suggests. A peakless Y.TRAVL behaves like a slightly wide-aperture road helmet; with the peak fitted it behaves like an adventure helmet, including at motorway speed.

About the Primal Black Grey graphic

A monochrome graphic with a single accent is the most conservative way to have a decor at all, and it suits a helmet whose profile is genuinely streamlined rather than styled. Nothing competes with the shape; the orange marks the design without filling it. Practically this is among the best finishes here for a long trip: the dark ground absorbs the dust and spatter that make a pale helmet look neglected within a day, while the accent keeps the helmet from disappearing entirely. 🔵 Matt is washed rather than polished, and conspicuity remains low despite the accent.

Polyfusion, two shells and four approvals

🔵 No independent safety rating exists for this helmet. SHARP has no entry for the Y.TRAVL, and there is no ADAC or Snell result. That means untested rather than poorly rated, but it is a gap in the evidence.

What it does hold: four market homologations including the current ECE 22-06.

The visor, the wide eye port and the second shield

🔵 Tinted and mirrored visors are available beyond the two supplied, all fitting through the same X-SWIFT mechanism. None of them takes the place of the internal sun visor for changing light, because none of them retracts.

The supplied pair is a clear optical-class-1 visor and an 80 % smoke tint.

Ventilation on an adventure helmet has to work at motorway speed with the visor sealed and at 30 km/h on a gravel climb. The first is what the Y.TRAVL's system is tuned for, and it does it well.

Interior, retention and fit

🔵 Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. A loose helmet moves under braking and rotates in a crash; a tight one produces a headache at forty minutes.

Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. It should not be possible to rotate the helmet on your head by hand.
