DescriptionThe whole story▼
The XJ6 arrived in 2009 as Yamaha's approachable four-cylinder naked: an upright riding position, an engine tuned for the middle of the rev range, and a character that suits riders who use their bike every day, in town as much as on country roads. Everyday riding involves a great deal of light braking, and a lever that sits right makes all of it easier. The Accossato EDF016 is a CNC-machined aluminium lever for the original front master cylinder of the XJ6, listed from 2009 to 2016, with an adjustable reach that brings the blade within easy range of your fingers.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Yamaha XJ6, listed 2009 to 2016
- Fits the original front master cylinder
- Distance from blade to grip adjustable
- Short blade for two-finger braking in five colours
- Standard length about 138 mm; long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, with a black hub
- Fixed, one-piece design
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato starts the EDF016 from solid aluminium and cuts its shape on CNC machines. A part made this way has no casting pores inside and an even cross-section from end to end, so it barely flexes when you squeeze it. After machining the lever is anodised in two tones, black for the hub and your chosen colour for the blade. The blade is fixed and continuous from the pivot to the tip, and the reach adjuster sits in the hub, close to the pivot, where it moves the blade nearer the grip or further away.
Letting the Traffic Behind Know
In town and on busy roads, much of what the right hand does is not stopping but signalling. A light touch on the lever switches on the brake light and tells the driver behind that you are about to slow, well before the brakes do any serious work. That touch needs a blade the fingers can find without shifting the hand on the throttle. On the XJ6, set the reach so that two fingers rest on the lever with the hand in its normal position; the short blade, made in silver, blue, gold, orange and green, keeps the remaining fingers free for the twistgrip. After fitting, check at a standstill that the light comes on at the very start of the lever's travel and that the lever moves a little before braking force builds up. Any lever change calls for that check, and it matters most on a bike that spends its week in traffic.
Fitment and Compatibility
Two XJ6 entries carry the EDF016 in Accossato's list, both under the name XJ 600 N: one for 2009 to 2012 and one for 2013 to 2016. Together they cover the unfaired XJ6 from 2009 to 2016. The lever takes the place of the stock blade on the original master cylinder. For the left side of the bar, Accossato's clutch lever for the same XJ6 is the ESY688, also listed for 2009 to 2016, so both sides can be ordered in one colour.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for this lever. It is therefore sold for track use.
