DescriptionThe whole story▼
Moto Guzzi named its big adventure tourer after the Stelvio Pass, the Alpine road with its ladder of numbered hairpins, and the Stelvio 1200 8V is at home on exactly that kind of road. Going up is the easy part; coming down with luggage asks a lot of the brakes and of the rider's hands. The Accossato EDF016 is a brake lever for the Stelvio 1200, in standard and NTX form, listed from 2008 to 2016. The lever is milled from aluminium, sits on the bike's own master cylinder and has a reach adjuster near the pivot.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 8V and Stelvio NTX, 2008 to 2016
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach, set at the hub
- Blade lengths short, standard (approximately 138 mm) and long, according to colour
- Black hub with a blade in one of seven colours
- Machined from solid aluminium, anodised
- Fixed one-piece lever
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF016 begins as a solid block of aluminium that is milled on CNC machines and then anodised. Its hub, where the lever pivots and the reach adjuster sits, is black; its blade takes the colour you select. There is no hinge along the blade. A fixed lever like this keeps its feel consistent through a long descent, because no joint adds movement as you squeeze and release again and again.
Coming Down the Hairpins
A long Alpine descent on a loaded Stelvio NTX is a sequence of short, controlled stops: brake in a straight line before each hairpin, release, turn, and repeat a few hundred metres later. Two things keep that manageable. The first is the engine: a lower gear holds the speed back between the bends, so the brakes work less and stay cooler. The second is a relaxed hand. If the lever sits far out, the fingers have to open wide dozens of times on the way down, and the forearm grows tired before the valley arrives. Set the EDF016 so the blade meets your fingers with the hand only slightly open, and consider the long blade, made in blue, gold, green and orange, which gives more leverage for the same pressure at the pads. With panniers and a passenger aboard, the Stelvio 1200 puts a lot of weight onto its front tyre under braking, so a progressive squeeze is kinder to tyre and passenger alike than abrupt pulls.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list, the Stelvio 1200 carries the years 2008 to 2016, with a second entry for the Stelvio 1200 8V covering 2012 to 2014. Our product covers the standard Stelvio and the NTX. The lever replaces the original on the Stelvio's own master cylinder, and the ESC080 is Accossato's clutch lever for the same years. Black and red blades come in standard length only; silver in standard and short.
Road Approval
Nothing on record shows a German ABE for the EDF016, so we sell this lever for the race track.
