DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Ténéré 700 was built as a simple, robust adventure bike with rally styling, and many of them spend at least part of their lives on gravel and dirt. Off-road riders tend to brake with one or two fingers, keeping the rest of the hand on the grip for control over bumps, and many Ténérés wear hand guards that sit close to the ends of the levers. The Accossato EDF016 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the Ténéré 700, listed from 2019 to 2022, with adjustable reach and a choice of blade lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Yamaha Ténéré 700, 2019 to 2022
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Short blade for one- or two-finger braking, in five colours
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in every colour
- Reach adjustable at the pivot
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised; black hub
- Fixed design with no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Dust, grit and water are part of an adventure bike's life, and the EDF016 is finished accordingly. Accossato machines it from aluminium on CNC equipment and then anodises it, which forms the colour within the surface of the metal instead of laying paint over it; a rinse after a muddy day leaves the finish as it was. The hub is black and houses the pivot and adjuster, while the blade takes one of seven colours. As a fixed lever, it has no folding joint where grit could collect or play could develop over time.
Room Behind the Hand Guard
On loose ground, braking with the whole hand is rarely a good idea. The front tyre needs small, carefully judged inputs, and the fingers that stay on the grip help you hold the bars steady when the wheel hits a rut or a stone. That is why short blades are popular on bikes like the Ténéré 700: the blade ends where one or two fingers need it, and the fingers left on the grip cannot be trapped between blade and bar at full pull. A shorter lever also leaves more space between its tip and a hand guard, which matters when the guard is mounted close to the controls. After fitting, turn the bars from lock to lock and pull the brake fully in each position to make sure nothing touches. Then set the reach in the gloves you wear off road, which are often thinner than touring gloves. On tarmac, the standard blade gives a more familiar feel and is the only length available in black and red. The short EDF016 is made in blue, silver, gold, green and orange.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF016 for the Ténéré 700, model code XTZ 700, from 2019 to 2022. It replaces the original lever on the stock master cylinder. The ESY688 clutch lever is listed for the Ténéré from 2019 to 2024, so for 2019 to 2022 bikes both sides can be fitted with matching levers. For the 2023 and 2024 Ténéré, Accossato's list shows the clutch lever only.
Road Approval
This brake lever has no documented German ABE and is sold for closed-course use.
