DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leoncino 500 Trail is the version of Benelli's little lion made for leaving the tarmac now and then, with spoked wheels and dual-purpose tyres. In Italy, the obvious place to try that is on the strade bianche, the white gravel roads that wind between the vineyards and farmhouses of Tuscany. Braking on gravel is a matter of feel, and feel starts at the lever. The Accossato EDF016 replaces the Trail's front brake lever with a CNC-machined one for the original master cylinder, adjustable in reach and listed for 2018 to 2020.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Benelli Leoncino 500 Trail, 2018 to 2020
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach to the grip
- Standard length approx. 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
- CNC-milled aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Seven blade colours
- Fixed blade without folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
A lever used on dusty roads benefits from having as few moving parts as possible. Apart from the pivot and the reach adjuster, both housed in its black hub, the EDF016 has nothing that moves; the blade itself is a single, fixed piece of aluminium with no folding joint where dust and grit could collect. Accossato machines the lever from solid aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it afterwards, the blade in the colour you choose. A wipe with a damp cloth after a dusty ride is all the finish needs.
Strade Bianche
Tuscany's gravel roads look inviting and ride that way too, until you need to stop. Loose stones on a hard base behave like tiny ball bearings under the front tyre, and a sudden grab at the lever makes the front wheel push or lock. The technique is to brake mostly in a straight line and earlier than on tarmac, squeezing the lever progressively so that the tyre builds up grip before it has to carry the full load. Keep the bike upright while braking, then let it roll through the bend with the brake released. That fine control is much easier when the lever sits where your fingers can modulate it rather than at the limit of their reach. Set the reach in the gloves you ride in, and consider the short blade if you tend to brake with two fingers while the others hold the grip on rough ground. On the Leoncino 500 Trail, a relaxed pace on these roads is part of the pleasure anyway.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF016 for the Leoncino 500 Trail from 2018 to 2020. It fits the original front brake master cylinder and replaces the stock lever. Accossato's clutch lever for the Trail, the ESD037, is listed for the 2018 model year only.
Road Approval
No German ABE exists in our documentation for this lever; it is sold for track use.
