DescriptionThe whole story▼
In 1928 Giuseppe Guzzi, brother of the company's founder Carlo, rode one of the firm's machines from Mandello del Lario to the Arctic Circle, and the model became known as the Norge, which is Norwegian for Norway. Moto Guzzi gave the same name to its touring bike of 2006: a fully faired machine with shaft drive and the transverse V-twin that has defined the brand for decades. The Accossato EDF016 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the Norge 1200 of 2006 to 2017, with adjustable reach and a choice of three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Moto Guzzi Norge 1200, 2006 to 2017
- Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard blade of about 138 mm in every colour
- Short blade in five colours, long blade in four
- Machined from solid aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Fixed blade, no hinge
- No German ABE documented; offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the EDF016 from a solid aluminium blank and anodises it once the machining is done. On a touring motorcycle that finish earns its keep: rain, road grime on an early-season trip and the rub of a thick winter glove all meet a hard oxide layer rather than a coat of paint. The hub, holding the pivot and the adjuster for the grip distance, is anodised black on every lever. Only the blade carries the colour you choose. It is a fixed blade, solid from end to end, with no joint along its length.
Long Empty Roads Up North
The name almost asks for a trip north, and a ride towards the North Cape has its own rhythm. Roads run for hours through forest and open fell with little traffic, and the brake lever can go untouched for long stretches. Then a reindeer steps out from the trees, or an elk warning sign turns out to mean exactly what it says, and the hand has to move from throttle to blade at once. That moment goes better when the lever sits where your fingers expect it, even after half a day of not thinking about it. Set the EDF016's reach in the gloves you tour in, seated on the Norge 1200 in your normal position, so that the fingers meet the blade without the wrist dropping. Where animals are common, many riders keep two fingers resting on the lever, ready but not pressing, and a blade set a little closer makes that easy to sustain. The Norge 1200 is a heavy bike once it is packed for a long trip, and it needs room to stop; if you tend to brake with the whole hand, the long blade gives your fingers more to hold and a little more leverage.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF016 for the Norge 1200 from 2006 to 2017. Its catalogue names three versions: the Norge 1200 for 2006 to 2015, the Norge 1200 GT and the GT 8V, the four-valve model that joined the range for 2011. The lever mounts on the original front brake master cylinder. For the clutch, Accossato makes the ESC080, listed for the same years, with the same black hub and colours.
Road Approval
For German roads, no ABE is documented for this lever. It is therefore sold for track riding.
