Nardo grey in the Midtown line is the most quietly premium version of this helmet — a neutral shell with the line's better finish and no graphic or trim colour asking for attention.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 Two things are true at once and both belong here. The Y.10 is a genuinely well-specified urban helmet at its price. And it offers no chin or jaw protection whatsoever, because the open-face category it is certified in does not include any.

Buy it for city speeds and short journeys. For anything faster, a full-face is the right tool.

About the Midtown Nardo Grey finish

Grey is the most practical helmet colour there is and the least interesting to write about, which is exactly why it deserves a mention here: it sits at the value where city road film, dust and water marks all show least, and it is more visible than black in the flat overcast light a European city supplies for most of the year. In the Midtown line's finish it reads as deliberate rather than as a default. 🔵 Nothing in the specification changes between Y.10 versions — shell, sun visor, buckle, liner and approvals are identical from the cheapest to this one. You are paying for the execution.

Polyfusion, two shells and three approvals

The shell is the least glamorous part of this helmet and the part that sets the price: injection-moulded Polyfusion thermoplastic, in two outer sizes, at 1325 g ±50.

🔵 It carries the same current ECE 22-06 approval as helmets costing five times as much. What it does not carry is their weight advantage — though on a jet that gap is small.

The sun visor, the peak — and the clear visor that is not there

🔵 Before you buy, settle the eyewear question. The Y.10 supplies a peak and a lightly tinted drop-down shield, and nothing clear. If you ride only in daylight that is a complete solution; if you ride home in the dark it is not.

Clear glasses or goggles are the answer, and the slim liner is cut to work with glasses.

Airflow on an open-face

Airflow on this helmet is deliberately understated because it does not need to be otherwise. The face opening is the intake; the crown system manages what is left; and a two-stage top vent appears on some versions of the range.

🔵 That last point is version-dependent and worth confirming for the finish you choose.

Interior, glasses and the buckle

🔵 A helmet worn ten times a day lives or dies on small ergonomics: how quickly the buckle fastens, whether glasses catch, how easily the liner comes out for washing. The Y.10 answers all three deliberately.

Intercom — and the 45 mm limit

🔵 Two numbers decide whether your intercom will fit: speaker diameter and speaker depth. The Y.10 states 45 mm for the first; the second depends on how much the slim liner will give.

The provision is universal rather than brand-specific, and no system comes with the helmet.

1325 grams, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 Buy this helmet for what it does rather than for what it costs, because the two are easily confused at this price. It is a genuinely well-specified urban jet: current ECE 22-06 approval, two shell sizes, a drop-down shield, a peak and 1325 g.

It is not a substitute for a full-face, and it does not come with a clear visor.

Choosing the right size

🔵 Ten minutes is the test. Most helmets feel fine for thirty seconds; a pressure point that will ruin a commute usually announces itself somewhere between five and ten minutes in.

Measure around the widest part of your head 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you before committing.

When something wears out

🔵 Two things end a helmet's life: an impact, and time. An impact crushes the EPS permanently; time degrades it whether the helmet is worn or stored. Neither is repairable, and both are why manufacturers recommend replacement after around five years.

Everything else on the Y.10 — liner, padding, peak, shield — is a replaceable part.
