DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pastel pink is the least conventional finish Nexx offers on this helmet, and it is worth saying plainly that it works — a soft, low-saturation pink reads as a colour choice rather than as a statement.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
🔵 A helmet with a European approval mark can make it look as though all approvals are equivalent. They are not. ECE 22-06 certifies this helmet as a jet helmet — a different test schedule applied to a shell with no chin bar.
Everything the standard does cover, it meets. What it does not cover is the chin.
About the pastel pink finish
Soft colours on helmets have a poor reputation from a period when they were applied badly, and this is not that. The value here is high enough to keep the conspicuity advantage a pale shell gives you in traffic, and the saturation low enough that the helmet sits with ordinary clothing rather than demanding a matching outfit. On an urban jet worn with a jacket rather than a suit, that is the correct register. It also runs cooler in summer sun than any dark finish. 🔵 Like every pale colour it shows city road film sooner, and it is the version most likely to still be available in your size — which cuts both ways.
Polyfusion, two shells and three approvals
🔵 What thermoplastic means in practice: the shell is injection-moulded rather than laid up by hand, which makes it cheaper to produce and heavier than a composite of equal strength. It also makes it very consistent, because the process is machine-controlled.
At 1325 g the weight penalty barely registers on a helmet with no chin bar. Two outer shell sizes, ECE 22-06, DOT and NBR approvals.
The sun visor, the peak — and the clear visor that is not there
A tab on the edge of the lens rather than a slider on the shell is an unusual choice and a deliberate one: it keeps the shell surface uninterrupted, which on a helmet whose appeal is its clean shape is the point.
🔵 It also means you reach across your field of view to deploy it. Practise once before doing it in traffic. And note that the shield is tinted — no clear visor is included.
Airflow on an open-face
In warm weather this is the coolest helmet Nexx makes, and no ventilation engineering is responsible for that — the face opening is. What the system contributes is airflow across the crown, which stops the head padding saturating on a hot day in traffic.
🔵 In cold weather the same opening works against you. A jet in January needs a neck tube and still lets in the cold.
Interior, glasses and the buckle
Wash the interior more often than you think. A jet's padding sits closer to open air than a full-face's and picks up road dust as well as sweat — and a liner washed twice a season lasts appreciably longer than one that never is.
🔵 All of it comes out by hand, and it is breathable enough to dry overnight.
Intercom — and the 45 mm limit
An open-face is the easiest helmet type to fit an intercom to, simply because there is more room and no chin bar to route a microphone around — a boom mic on a jet sits where you can see it and adjust it.
🔵 The Y.10 takes universal audio sets up to 45 mm; nothing is supplied.
1325 grams, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 The full honest list in one place. No chin bar. No clear visor in the box. No SHARP, ADAC or Snell rating. Loud above city speeds. Cold in winter. Two shell sizes rather than three.
In exchange: 1325 g, ECE 22-06, a drop-down sun visor, a peak, a micrometric buckle and universal comms provision at 119–144 €.
Choosing the right size
🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The liner beds in over the first few hours of use and again across the first season, so a helmet that feels perfect in the shop will usually be loose by the summer's end.
Start tighter than comfortable rather than the other way round.
When something wears out
🔵 A word on the sun visor, because it is the part most easily ruined. Never wipe it dry — dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against headlights.
Wet it first, every time. Replacements are available if it does get scratched.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
The price ladder within the Y.10 itself is entirely paint. Plain at 119 €, Sunny at 127 €, Eagle Rider at 135 €, Midtown at 143 € — same shell, same sun visor, same buckle, same approvals throughout.
🔵 Worth knowing if the budget is tight: the cheapest Y.10 protects exactly as well as the most expensive.
