Pastel blue is one of two soft colours in the Y.10 range and an unusual thing to find on a helmet at any price. It reads as a considered choice rather than a default, which on an urban jet is most of the point.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

Riders choose a jet for reasons that are entirely practical in a city: you can see across a junction properly, you can hear traffic, you can talk to someone at a light, and glasses go on and off without a fight.

🔵 What you give up is chin and jaw protection. There is no chin bar, and the ECE 22-06 jet category does not require one.

About the pastel blue finish

Pastels behave differently from saturated colours on a helmet. They keep a high overall value, so most of the conspicuity benefit of a pale shell survives — a driver's eye resolves a light object against dark tarmac quickly, whatever the hue. But they carry none of the visual weight that makes a bright helmet dominate everything else you are wearing, which suits a helmet worn with ordinary clothes rather than with a riding suit. It also stays cooler in sun than any dark finish. 🔵 Pale finishes show city road film sooner than dark ones; expect to wash it more often than the black.

Polyfusion, two shells and three approvals

Two outer shell sizes on a helmet at this price is more generous than it sounds. A single shell scaled across XXS to XXL leaves the smallest sizes inside a helmet that is visibly too big for them; two shells keeps the proportion honest at both ends.

The material is Polyfusion thermoplastic, compact and impact-resistant, certified to ECE 22-06.

The sun visor, the peak — and the clear visor that is not there

The sun visor is described as ultra-wide, and on a jet that matters more than on a full-face — there is no aperture edge to hide behind, so a shield that stops short of your peripheral vision is immediately obvious.

🔵 It is operated by a fine tab on the lens edge rather than a shell slider, which keeps the outside of the helmet clean. It is lightly tinted, and there is no clear alternative supplied.

Airflow on an open-face

The honest position on jet ventilation: the shell above your brow needs airflow, and everything below it is already in open air. That is why an open-face is dramatically cooler than a full-face in summer and why it needs so little vent hardware.

🔵 A two-stage top vent is fitted to some versions of the Y.10; it is not standard across the whole range.

Interior, glasses and the buckle

A micrometric ratchet is the right retention system for an urban helmet worn several times a day. It adjusts in fine steps, it fastens one-handed, and it works in gloves — none of which is true of a double-D ring.

🔵 Check the adjustment every few months. It should be snug enough that the helmet cannot be rolled forward off your head.

Intercom — and the 45 mm limit

Universal comms provision is the right approach on an urban helmet, because riders arrive with the system they already own rather than buying one to match the helmet.

1325 grams, and the rest of the honest list

An open-face is loud at speed and there is no engineering fix for it — turbulence reaches your ears directly. Below about 60 km/h that barely matters; on a dual carriageway it does.

🔵 This helmet is built for city speeds. Earplugs are worth having if your commute includes anything faster.

Choosing the right size

Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description can settle for you. A loose helmet moves under braking; a tight one produces a headache at forty minutes, and on a jet you will notice it sooner because there is no chin bar to distribute the pressure.

When something wears out

The interior is the part that wears first on any jet, because it takes sweat and skin contact daily and is exposed to more dust than a full-face's. A fresh liner restores a two-year-old helmet more completely than most riders expect.
