DescriptionThe whole story▼
Gloss grey is the most practical solid in the range and the one that needs the least attention over a few years of daily use. It hides road film better than black or white and sits meaningfully above black in flat light.
Entry sport-touring — and what that means
The Braker SV sits between MT's entry-level Stinger 2 and the Thunder 4 R SV, and the differences are worth knowing. Against the Stinger it gains a sun visor, DOT approval, three intakes and a spoiler.
🔵 Against the Thunder 4 R SV it gives up the supplied Pinlock insert and around 25 g. Both use HIRP shells homologated to ECE 22.06.
About the gloss grey finish
Value rather than colour decides both how dirty a helmet looks and how easily it is seen, and a mid grey sits at the useful point on that scale for both at once. Road film, dust and dried rain marks all show least here — they read as haze on black and as obvious marks on white. And a driver's eye resolves a mid-value object against dark tarmac appreciably faster than a dark one. 🔵 It is also the finish that shows the integrated rear spoiler most clearly, which on this shell is a genuine functional part rather than a styling flourish.
HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT
Full ECE 22.06 approval means the current schedule rather than the superseded 22.05: more impact points, higher test speeds, and a rotational-impact assessment the older standard did not include.
🔵 DOT approval sits alongside it and is tested differently again.
The single-action sun visor
Sunset on a westbound commute is the condition that decides whether a sun visor was worth having, and it is precisely the condition a fixed tinted visor handles worst — half an hour later it is dark and you cannot see through it.
🔵 A drop-down shield retracts in a second and costs you nothing when it is up.
MT-QVSS, and the anti-fog insert you buy separately
A two-button release is a genuine design decision rather than a detail. Releasing both base plates simultaneously means the visor lifts away without being flexed, which is what stops the mechanism wearing loose over a few hundred changes.
🔵 MT-QVSS works in gloves, which is the other half of the point.
Three intakes and a spoiler that vents
What ventilation actually manages is humidity as much as heat: sweat that cannot evaporate stays in the liner, and a saturated liner is what makes a ride uncomfortable long before temperature does.
🔵 The Braker SV's system is three intakes and a spoiler-integrated exhaust. The removable interior is the other half of the answer.
The MT-Micrometric+ closure
What a micrometric closure gives you over a simple buckle is fine adjustment. You are not choosing between two holes; you are setting the strap to the millimetre and clicking to the same place every time.
🔵 That is worth having on a helmet you fasten in gloves, in the rain, in a hurry.
Interior, fit and the nose deflector
🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The lining beds in over the first few hours and again across the first season, so a helmet that is perfect in the shop will usually be loose by the summer's end. Start tighter than comfortable.
Seven sizes from XS to XXXL cover a wider range than most helmets in this class.
Universal UCS intercom mount
An intercom on a commuting helmet earns its keep in traffic rather than on the open road: navigation prompts without looking at a screen, and a call answered without stopping.
🔵 The Braker SV has a universal UCS mount. Nothing is supplied — the provision is the feature.
Where it sits in MT's range
Within this model the price ladder is entirely paint. The Pure solids at 115 € and the graphic versions at 123 € share the same shell, the same visor system, the same sun visor and the same closure.
🔵 The cheapest Braker SV protects exactly as well as the most expensive.
When something wears out
Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. MT, like every manufacturer, recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition — and immediately after any real impact, because the EPS crushes once and does not recover.
Between those points, everything you touch on this helmet is replaceable.

Specification
- Model — MT-Helmets Braker SV
- Part number — 134600PA12103
- Colour — Pure A12 — Gloss grey
- Homologation — ECE 22.06 and DOT — road-legal across ECE markets and in the United States
- 🔴 Safety rating — none — SHARP has never listed the Braker SV; no ADAC or Snell result, and no independent road test has been published
- Helmet type — Full-face, entry sport-touring
- Shell — HIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer)
- Weight — approx. 1525 g
- Sizes — XS to XXXL (seven sizes)
- Visor — MT-V-28B with MT-QVSS two-button tool-free quick release
- 🔴 Anti-fog — ready for Pinlock® DKS435 or FogOff FOG010 — neither insert is supplied
- Sun visor — single-action drop-down shield — one movement of the slider
- Ventilation — three air intakes and an integrated rear spoiler with an air exhaust. 🔴 No independent measurement of the airflow exists
- Retention — MT-Micrometric+ micrometric closure
- Interior — fully removable and washable
- Communication — universal UCS intercom mount — takes standard communicators; no system supplied
- Also supplied — nose deflector
- Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
- Serviceability — visor, anti-fog insert, sun shield, lining, cheek pads and nose deflector all available separately
- Made for — commuting, country roads and moderate distances — not a long-distance touring helmet
- Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
- Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
- Worth budgeting — an anti-fog insert — Pinlock DKS435 or FogOff FOG010 — before the first cold month. Neither is supplied, and a winter commute mists the visor at every stop without one
- Compared with the Stinger 2 — that helmet costs 30 € less and has no sun visor, no DOT approval and no spoiler. Both use HIRP shells homologated to ECE 22.06 — the difference is equipment, not protection standard
- Compared with the Thunder 4 R SV — that helmet costs 42 € more and adds a Pinlock DKS435 insert in the box plus roughly 25 g less weight, on the same HIRP platform
- Care — wash the lining by hand a few times a season; never wipe the visor or the sun shield dry, as road dust scratches both permanently
- Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large

“MCN calls it a shrewd budget choice and the numbers agree: quiet at road speeds, decent airflow, a sun visor that locks properly and no rattles. At 115 € the only thing it really gives up is weight.”
