Cockpit B13 is fluorescent yellow under a matt finish and by a wide margin the most visible helmet in the Braker SV range. On a commuting helmet ridden through a European winter, that is a specification rather than a preference.

Entry sport-touring — and what that means

🔵 Be clear about what this helmet is for: commuting, country roads and moderate distances. It is not a long-distance touring helmet, and at roughly 1525 g on a thermoplastic shell it does not pretend to be.

What it does bring is a feature list normally found a price bracket or two higher.

About the Cockpit B13 graphic

Fluorescent pigments convert ultraviolet into visible light, which is why they appear to glow rather than merely to be bright — and why they keep working in exactly the conditions where ordinary colours fail: overcast mornings, dusk, rain and the flat grey of a winter commute. Under a matt finish the effect is less glossy and no less visible. 🔵 Fluorescent fades faster than any other pigment type under sustained sun, and no care regime stops it — only storage out of direct light slows it down.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

Weight matters most at the end of a long day and least in the first ten minutes, which is why it is the specification most often underweighted when buying.

🔵 At around 1525 g the Braker SV is a commuting and country-road helmet. Over four hours you will notice it.

The single-action sun visor

🔵 Keep the sun shield as clean as the main visor. It is the surface closest to your eyes, easy to forget because it lives inside the shell, and a fingerprint on it is far more visible than one outside.

Clean it wet, never dry.

MT-QVSS, and the anti-fog insert you buy separately

🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries. On this helmet the question largely disappears — the single-action sun shield drops behind a clear visor and retracts instantly.

The main visor is the MT-V-28B, supplied clear.

Three intakes and a spoiler that vents

🔵 If you ride in genuine heat, treat ventilation as the open question on this helmet. Three intakes and a spoiler exhaust are documented; no independent test has measured the airflow, and MT publishes no figures.

We would rather say that than describe a performance we cannot verify.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

🔵 Two things to get right before your first ride: the strap length, set bare-handed at home, and the fit itself. Neither can be corrected on the road, and the closure only solves the first.

The Braker SV uses MT-Micrometric+.

Interior, fit and the nose deflector

🔵 Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare part on any helmet and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with wear and solve a hot spot that would otherwise mean a different helmet entirely.

Genuine MT pads for the Braker SV are available, as are complete linings.

Universal UCS intercom mount

🔵 If navigation prompts are the reason you want an intercom, the combination that matters on this helmet is the mount and the sun visor: one keeps the audio in place, the other keeps you from squinting at a screen at a junction.

The intercom is a separate purchase.

Where it sits in MT's range

The most useful way to place this helmet: it is a commuting and country-road full-face with a feature list from a higher price bracket and the shell material of a lower one.

🔵 For long-distance touring, MT's own range and everyone else's offer lighter options. For a daily ride, this is a strong package.

When something wears out

🔵 The nose deflector is supplied and worth keeping even if you remove it in summer. It is the cheapest fogging control on the helmet and it costs nothing to refit when the weather turns.

Replacements are available if it is lost.
