Red under a matt finish is an unusual combination and one of the better-looking things MT does at this price — without a highlight running across it, the colour reads as pigment rather than as paint.

Entry sport-touring — and what that means

Worth checking on any helmet at this price: which ECE revision it holds. A good number of budget full-face helmets are still sold against the superseded 22.05, which uses fewer impact points, lower test speeds and no rotational assessment.

About the Inception B5 graphic

Matt red pushes the helmet away from the glossy look most helmets in this class have, and it does it without giving up much: red is a high-saturation colour that holds up well against grey tarmac, putting it among the more conspicuous options here without going fluorescent. On a sport-touring shell with a visible spoiler and three intakes, the flat finish also keeps the structure legible. 🔵 Red pigment fades faster than most under sustained UV, and matt clear coat is washed rather than polished — there is nothing to buff a mark out of.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

🔵 A thermoplastic shell is not a lesser shell, it is a different manufacturing route — and at 115 € it is the only route that exists. What matters is the approval it holds, and this helmet holds two.

ECE 22.06 for Europe, DOT for the United States, on a HIRP shell of roughly 1525 g.

The single-action sun visor

🔵 A tinted visor is not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. A retractable internal shield sidesteps the question entirely — it is up when the light goes.

MT-QVSS, and the anti-fog insert you buy separately

Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches.

🔵 Wet it first, every time. MT-QVSS makes replacing a scratched visor straightforward when the time comes.

Three intakes and a spoiler that vents

🔵 Three intakes is a reasonable count for this class and it tells you very little on its own — placement and internal path matter far more than the number, as MT's own range demonstrates across models.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

The closure is one of the places an inexpensive helmet most often disappoints, because a ratchet with shallow teeth feels loose and works loose over time.

🔵 MT-Micrometric+ is the current generation of MT's own system and it is fitted across the 2024 range rather than reserved for the dearer models.

Interior, fit and the nose deflector

🔵 Washing the lining is the single most effective maintenance you can do, and it is worth doing more often than most riders bother to — particularly on a commuting helmet worn in all weather.

Universal UCS intercom mount

🔵 The most common reason riders abandon an intercom is a speaker pressing on the ear over a long day, and it is almost always a depth or positioning problem rather than a fault of the system.

Check both dimensions of your speakers against the recesses before committing.
