Subic in matt red is the quietest way to have a red helmet. The graphic is there, the colour is there, and the flat finish takes the shine off both — which on a carbon shell is a coherent thing to want.

A full 6K carbon shell at about 1450 grams

The 6K designation describes the tow — 6,000 filaments per bundle — which produces a visibly regular weave and a good stiffness-to-weight balance for a shell this size.

🔵 Three shells, roughly 1450 g in the middle one, multi-density EPS, ECE 22.06. That is the technical case, and it is a strong one at this price.

SHARP 4 stars — and what that rating rests on

🟢 Four stars from SHARP, on a helmet the programme bought at retail and destroyed. That is a meaningfully different kind of evidence from a manufacturer's own claim, and it is the reason the rating is quoted here at all.

🔵 Attribution note: the SHARP entry reads „LS2 Dragon GP Carbon" with no FF807 code. Weight, material, retention and body style match exactly; there is one Dragon.

Road, not race: no FIM homologation

🔵 A limit worth knowing before ordering rather than after: no FIM homologation. The Dragon's ECE 22.06 approval covers road use and virtually every organised track day, but not FIM-sanctioned competition.

The tinted visor supplied in the box carries its own limit too — daylight only in most European jurisdictions.

About the Subic matt red graphic

Matt changes what a colour does. A gloss red returns a bright specular highlight along every curve, which is what makes a red helmet read as loud; a flat coat scatters that light and leaves you with the colour and the shape and nothing else. On a helmet as sculpted as the Dragon — spoiler, carbon vent caps, a chin bar with real geometry — that is arguably the better presentation, because the form does the work instead of the reflections. It also matches the bare matt carbon version in the range, which is not an accident. Practically, matt hides the handling a helmet accumulates far better than gloss does: the fine marks from bag straps, gloves and tank bags catch in a clearcoat and vanish on a flat one. 🔵 The rule that matters: matt is washed, never polished. Abrasive compound leaves a shiny patch on a flat finish that no amount of further work will remove.

The Twin Visor System

Sunset on a westbound road is the case that decides whether a sun visor was worth having, and it is the case a fixed tint handles worst — half an hour later it is dark and you are still looking through it.

🔵 The Twin Visor System retracts in a second and costs nothing when it is up. The main visor is scratch- and UV-treated and changes without tools.

What comes with the helmet: the Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ insert, a second complete visor in a tint, a breath deflector, and a reflective safety patch.

🔵 Only the first of those is useful in the dark. Tinted visors are restricted to daylight use in most European countries — check the rules where you ride before relying on it.

Ventilation — documented, not measured

Intakes at the chin and crown push air into channels moulded through the EPS; a carbon port at the back extracts it. All three vent components are carbon rather than plastic.

🔵 This is a description of the system, not a verdict on it. No independent test of the FF807's ventilation has been published, so we make no claim about how much air it moves.

Double D-ring and the Emergency Release System

Racing uses double D-rings for a reason: there is nothing to break, nothing to wear out and nothing that can be done up incorrectly and still feel secure.

🔵 On the Dragon it sits on a reinforced strap, alongside an Emergency Release System that lets the cheek pads be withdrawn during a roadside extraction.

X-Static lining, head shape and comfort

The interior is X-Static silver fabric on laser-cut panels, entirely removable, and it comes out in a couple of minutes without tools.

🔵 Wash it a few times a season in cool water and let it dry away from heat. Sweat degrades foam over time, and the padding is what holds the helmet in the correct position on your head.

Where this sits in a rider's shortlist: it is the helmet for someone who wants carbon and distance rather than carbon and lap times — sun visor, Pinlock, spare visor, eight sizes, and a SHARP rating to check the claim.

When something wears out

Servicing a helmet is mostly washing the parts of it that touch you. The Dragon's lining and cheek pads come out by hand, and replacements are available in several thicknesses.

🔵 The one component that cannot be serviced is the EPS liner — and it is the component that actually protects you. One impact and the helmet is done.
