Some helmets need a graphic to look like something. The Dragon in plain matt carbon does not: what you see is the shell itself, the 6K weave running uninterrupted from the chin bar to the spoiler under a satin lacquer that kills reflections instead of chasing them.

A full 6K carbon shell at about 1450 grams

The Dragon's shell is 6K carbon fibre throughout — a full monocoque, not a carbon skin laid over a composite structure. That distinction is the whole helmet: it is how LS2 gets a full-face with a built-in sun visor down to roughly 1450 g (±50 g).

🔵 Three outer shell sizes cover 2XS to 3XL, so the smallest heads get a genuinely small shell rather than a large one packed out with foam.

SHARP 4 stars — and what that rating rests on

🟢 The Dragon holds 4 out of 5 stars from SHARP, the UK Department for Transport's independent testing programme — which crashes helmets it buys at retail rather than reviewing samples the manufacturer supplies.

🔵 One caveat we will state rather than bury: SHARP lists the helmet as „LS2 Dragon GP Carbon" without the FF807 code. The attribution rests on an exact match of weight, carbon shell, double D-ring and body style, and LS2 makes only one Dragon.

Road, not race: no FIM homologation

🔵 The Dragon is not FIM homologated. Its approval is ECE 22.06 for road use, which is a different thing from the FIM Racing Homologation Programme that governs what may be worn in FIM-sanctioned competition.

If you need an FIM helmet, LS2's FF805 Thunder GP Pro FIM is the one in this range.

About the bare matt carbon finish

This is the version where the structural material is the finish. No basecoat, no graphic, no clearcoat built up to a mirror — just the 6K weave with enough satin lacquer over it to seal the resin against UV. The weave is visibly regular because a monocoque is laid up rather than assembled, and on a helmet whose entire argument is that the shell is carbon all the way through, showing it is the honest choice. It is also the cheapest Dragon at 407 €, 17 € below the graphics, which makes it the version to buy if you are here for the construction rather than the paint. A practical note that matters on carbon specifically: satin lacquer is thin, and it is the only thing standing between UV and the resin matrix. 🔵 Wash it, never polish it — abrasive compound cuts straight through a satin coat and leaves a permanently glossy scar that cannot be blended out. Park it out of full sun when you reasonably can.

The Twin Visor System

The Twin Visor System pairs the main screen with an internal sun visor that drops on a single slider and retracts completely into the shell. On a carbon helmet at this weight, having one at all is the unusual part.

🔵 The main visor is treated against scratching and UV, locks shut with a button catch, and comes off its mechanism without tools.

Pinlock 120 and a second visor, both in the box

Two things ship in the box that most manufacturers charge for: a Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ anti-fog insert, and a complete second visor in a tint.

🔵 The tinted visor is a daylight accessory. In most European jurisdictions a tinted visor may not be used at night or in poor visibility — carry the clear one if the day might outlast the light.

Ventilation — documented, not measured

Ventilation runs through carbon-capped intakes at the chin and crown into channels formed in the EPS, and out through a carbon exhaust port at the rear. It is a through-flow design rather than a set of decorative scoops.

🔵 We are not rating it. No independent review publishes a ventilation measurement for the FF807 — what LS2 documents is a layout, not a tested result.

Double D-ring and the Emergency Release System

Retention is a double D-ring on a reinforced strap — the closure used in racing because it cannot slip, has nothing mechanical to fail and tightens to exactly the tension you set each time.

🔵 An Emergency Release System is fitted: pull tabs that let trained responders withdraw the cheek pads and remove the helmet with far less movement of your head and neck.

X-Static lining, head shape and comfort

The lining is X-Static® — a fabric with metallic silver in the fibre, used for its antibacterial behaviour — laser-cut rather than stitched at the edges, and completely removable for washing.

🔵 Flies on the Visor describes the fit as enveloping with a close neck roll, and notes that LS2 officially specifies the Dragon as an Intermediate Oval.

Where it sits in LS2's range

The Dragon is LS2's carbon sport-touring full-face, and it sits between the composite road helmets and the FF805 Thunder competition range.

🔵 The clearest difference against the FF805 Thunder GP Pro FIM: that one is FIM-homologated for racing and has no internal sun visor. The Dragon has the sun visor and is not FIM-approved.

When something wears out

The parts that wear are all available separately: visors clear and tinted, the Pinlock insert, cheek pads in other thicknesses, the complete lining, vent caps and the breath deflector.

🔵 The EPS is not among them. It crushes once, absorbing the energy it is designed to absorb, and does not recover — after a real impact the helmet is finished even if the carbon looks perfect.
