Red over carbon is the oldest combination in sport motorcycling and still the one most riders picture when they picture a fast helmet. The Trax graphic gives it a hard edge without burying the weave underneath.

A full 6K carbon shell at about 1450 grams

The construction is unusually consistent for the price: a 6K carbon monocoque, a multi-density EPS liner inside it, and carbon used again for the vent caps and the rear exhaust rather than plastic.

🔵 ECE 22.06 homologation applies — the current schedule, which tests more impact points at higher speeds than 22.05 did and adds a rotational assessment the older standard had no equivalent for.

SHARP 4 stars — and what that rating rests on

🟢 Tested by SHARP in August 2025 and rated 4 stars of 5 — a current result on the current standard rather than a legacy score carried over from an earlier generation of the helmet.

🔵 We have recorded the one weak point in that attribution openly: SHARP's entry omits the FF807 model code. Every published characteristic matches, and LS2 has only ever sold one Dragon.

Road, not race: no FIM homologation

🔵 If you are shopping for a track helmet, the distinction between ECE and FIM is the one to get right. Club track days generally require ECE 22.06 and nothing more; FIM-sanctioned racing requires FIM homologation, which this helmet does not have.

About the Trax red graphic

Worth knowing something specific about red before you choose it: of all the pigments used on helmets, red is the one most vulnerable to ultraviolet light. The organic pigments that make a saturated red saturated break down faster than the inorganic ones behind blue, black and silver, which is why a red helmet left on a parcel shelf through several summers fades in a way a blue one does not. Modern automotive-grade clearcoats slow that considerably and a gloss coat like this one carries UV inhibitors, so this is a reason to park sensibly rather than a reason to choose differently. On the road red performs well — better than black, below white and hi-vis yellow — and against grey tarmac it separates cleanly. 🔵 Store it out of direct sun rather than on a windowsill, wash it wet, and it will hold its colour for the life of the helmet.

The Twin Visor System

Vision is where a sport-touring helmet earns its keep, and the Dragon's answer is a wide main visor with a button lock and a sun shield behind it that retracts fully out of the way.

🔵 Never wipe either surface dry. Grit dragged across a visor leaves fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights and cannot be polished out of a coated screen.

The tinted visor is a genuine second screen rather than a clip-on, so swapping is a tool-free mechanism change rather than an attachment.

🔵 Remember what it is for: daylight. Most European jurisdictions prohibit tinted visors at night and in poor visibility, and the internal sun shield is the better tool for changing light anyway.

Ventilation — documented, not measured

The vent hardware is carbon rather than plastic — chin cap, crown cap and rear exhaust — which is consistent with a shell that is carbon throughout and adds a little stiffness where the shell is pierced.

🔵 Between the intakes and the exhaust, channels moulded into the EPS carry the flow. What that delivers in measured terms is not published by anyone independent.

Double D-ring and the Emergency Release System

The strap is reinforced where it meets the shell, and the closure is a double D-ring — unchanged in principle for decades because nothing has improved on it for security.

🔵 Set it properly every time. A strap that is one notch loose is the most common way a correctly-sized helmet fails to stay on.

X-Static lining, head shape and comfort

A close neck roll does two useful things: it cuts the amount of turbulent air coming up from below, which is where much of a helmet's noise originates, and it keeps cold air off your neck in winter.

🔵 It also makes the helmet harder to pull on. That is the trade, and on this helmet it has been made deliberately.

Where it sits in LS2's range

The Dragon's competition is the carbon sport-touring segment, and its argument there is the equipment count: full carbon, internal sun visor, Pinlock 120 MaxVision included, second tinted visor included, Emergency Release System, three shells.

When something wears out

Helmets are consumables with a long service life. LS2, like every manufacturer, advises replacement after roughly five years of use regardless of appearance — the EPS and the resin age whether or not the helmet is crashed.

Size guide

Keep a new helmet on for ten minutes before deciding. Pressure that is barely noticeable in the first thirty seconds becomes the only thing you can think about after an hour.
