Forged carbon is the marbled, non-repeating pattern you get from chopped tow rather than woven cloth, and under gloss it is the most visually dramatic thing LS2 does to this shell without adding a single gram of paint.

A full 6K carbon shell at about 1450 grams

🔵 Full carbon versus carbon-look is the single most misrepresented specification in helmets. A carbon-look shell is fibreglass with a decorative carbon top layer; the Dragon is carbon all the way through, in a 6K weave.

Underneath sits a multi-density EPS liner — firmer where an impact needs slowing hard, softer where it should give progressively, rather than one compromise density throughout.

SHARP 4 stars — and what that rating rests on

🔵 Why a SHARP rating is worth more than a homologation. ECE 22.06 is a pass or fail threshold — every legal helmet clears it. SHARP buys helmets anonymously at retail and crashes them at multiple speeds and points, then publishes a comparative score.

The Dragon scores 4 stars of 5, tested in August 2025 on the current 22.06 standard.

Road, not race: no FIM homologation

🔵 Worth being explicit because the Dragon looks like a race helmet: FIM homologation is absent. That does not affect track days, which almost universally accept ECE 22.06 — it affects FIM-sanctioned racing, where the FRHPhe sticker is checked at scrutineering.

About the forged carbon finish

Woven carbon reads as a regular grid; forged carbon reads as stone. The difference is the raw material — short randomly-oriented tow instead of continuous cloth — and the result is that no two helmets carry quite the same pattern. Under gloss lacquer that depth comes forward properly: the light travels into the coat, catches the tow ends at different angles and gives the surface a movement a flat finish cannot produce. It sits at the same 407 € as the plain matt version, which makes the choice between them purely a matter of whether you want the shell to be quiet or to be looked at. 🔵 Two practical points. Gloss shows swirl marks if you dry-wipe it, so wash it wet and dry with a clean soft cloth. And like every carbon finish here the lacquer is the UV barrier for the resin underneath — no abrasive polish, and out of direct sun when it is not being ridden.

The Twin Visor System

🔵 The case for a drop-down shield over a tinted outer visor is simple: it is reversible in one second. Ride into a tunnel, under trees, or past sunset and it retracts — a tinted outer visor has to be swapped at the roadside or lived with in the dark.

On the Dragon it disappears fully into the shell rather than sitting in your upper field of view.

Pinlock 120 and a second visor, both in the box

🔵 Pinlock 120 MaxVision is the top anti-fog specification Pinlock makes — 120 is the highest performance grade, MaxVision the widest field of view. Getting it included rather than sold separately is worth roughly 30 € and it is the difference between a visor that fogs at traffic lights and one that does not.

A second, tinted visor is in the box as well.

Ventilation — documented, not measured

🔵 Airflow only happens if the air has somewhere lower in pressure to go, which is why the rear carbon exhaust matters as much as the intakes. Channels moulded into the EPS carry the flow across your scalp between the two.

That is the design. How well it performs in practice is not something anyone has measured independently, and we are not going to invent a figure.

Double D-ring and the Emergency Release System

🔵 The Emergency Release System is the feature you hope never matters. Red tabs at the base of each cheek pad let a paramedic pull the pads out first, so the helmet lifts off without the shell dragging against your jaw and neck.

The closure itself is a double D-ring on a reinforced strap.

X-Static lining, head shape and comfort

🔵 Intermediate Oval is the most common European head shape and the one most helmets target: slightly longer front-to-back than side-to-side. If a helmet presses at your temples while feeling loose at the forehead, your head is rounder than that — and no amount of padding change fixes a shape mismatch.

The Dragon's lining is X-Static, laser-cut and fully removable.

Where it sits in LS2's range

🔵 Within this model the price ladder is 17 € wide and entirely cosmetic. The two carbon-finish versions at 407 € and the six graphics at 424 € share the same shell, the same visors, the same Pinlock and the same approvals.

The cheapest Dragon is crash-tested identically to the most expensive one.

When something wears out

🔵 Carbon hides damage. A composite shell shows a crack; a carbon one can look untouched over crushed EPS. If the Dragon has taken a serious knock, replace it — the outside tells you nothing about the liner.

Everything else on the helmet is serviceable: visors, Pinlock, pads, lining, vent caps.
