Taking the fairing off a Panigale V2 changed two things, and only one of them is obvious. The riding position moved the bike away from circuits and towards roads, so the engine now earns its living in third-gear roll-ons rather than on long full-throttle straights. The change nobody mentions is what the airbox is being fed: unfaired road air, carrying brake dust, tyre wear and whatever the vehicle in front is producing. PM127S answers both, and the year on your registration document decides whether it is the right part at all.

The roll-on is where restriction is felt
Open the throttle hard in third and the engine demands a step change in airflow. Restriction is not one fixed figure — it grows with the volume being pulled through, so a half-loaded panel charges its highest toll at precisely the moment the rider is asking for everything. Nothing feels broken, because the injection simply meters fuel to whatever arrives. The drive out of the bend just softens, by an amount that is easy to feel and impossible to name. No panel filter adds drive a rider could put a number on; holding the restriction low and steady is a different and far more honest claim.
Which Streetfighter V2 you have
Two different motorcycles wear this name. The 955 built from 2022 to 2024 takes PM127S. The 890 that replaced it uses another airbox and another element entirely, so order against the year and capacity in the papers rather than the badge on the tank. For a 955 that spends its life in traffic, Sprint Filter also catalogues a 14-micron nonwoven: finer retention, markedly less flow, and a genuine trade rather than a step up.
Care and cleaning
An air line from the clean face outward is the normal service. Water only when the cloth has earned it — hand warm, a little mild detergent, rinsed until clear, then dried in air alone, never with heat and never near a flame, and refitted dry with nothing to reapply.
