Every choice on the Special is a visible one: spoked wheels, polished aluminium, lower bars, a colour scheme borrowed from the 1970s. It is the version bought by someone who cares what the machine looks like standing still, which is not a shallow observation — a bike that gets looked at gets cleaned, and a bike that gets cleaned gets maintained. PM127S belongs to the other category entirely. It is the one part of the specification that nobody will ever see, and it is chosen for reasons that have nothing to do with how the bike presents.

The one component nobody sees
Ten years from now somebody will inspect this motorcycle carefully before buying it, and the intake is one of the places they will look. What they should find is a standard airbox, sealed, with the ducting exactly as Ducati arranged it and no evidence that anyone got creative. That is what this element leaves behind. It buys no extra power, and nothing about it is intended to; it simply does the filtering job properly and stays invisible while doing it.
A single entry, and what that tells you
For the base Scrambler 1100 the catalogue offers three weaves. For the Special it lists exactly one, and this is it. There is no decision to research, no finer nonwoven to weigh up, no racing cloth to be talked into. The trim that is all about choices turns out to have precisely none where the airbox is concerned, which at least makes the ordering simple: one part number, valid for every model year the Special was built.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, blown outward, is the entire routine most of the year. Once the cloth stops responding to air, wash it in hand-warm water with a mild detergent, rinse it until the water is clear and leave it to dry naturally in the air. Nothing hot goes near it — no heater, no flame — and it is refitted dry, with no oil to reapply. The Downloads tab has the maintenance sheet.
