The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Count the throttle openings on a Diavel and you have described the bike. This is a machine used in short, deliberate bursts — away from a set of lights, out of a roundabout, past a queue — and 1,262 cc of DVT twin arranged so that the answer arrives immediately rather than after a downshift. A life made of hundreds of small demands is a different kind of work for an airbox than an hour on a motorway, and it is the kind in which a loaded panel is noticed first. PM127S is the woven polyester element for it.
Key Features
- Dry polyester, never oiled, so nothing travels towards the sensors
- Filtering area of roughly double that of other performance elements
- Threads beginning at 22 micrometres, woven to a calibrated aperture
- Occupies the standard panel's place; airbox, ducting and mapping unchanged
- Cleaned with an air line in a few minutes and put straight back
- Two years of warranty from the purchase date
Hundreds of small demands
Each of those bursts asks the intake for a rapid increase in volume, and a panel's cost rises with the volume passing through it — so the toll is charged precisely during the manoeuvre, never during the cruise between them. Nothing registers as a fault: the injection meters fuel to the air that reaches it, the mixture stays right, and the bike merely becomes a fraction less immediate than the one that was ridden home from the dealer. The torque figure stays exactly where Ducati set it whatever filter is fitted. What can be kept is the promptness of the delivery.
Two versions, one box
The base 1260 and the S with its Öhlins and forged wheels use the same airbox and the same element, and so does the XDiavel alongside them. Sprint Filter also lists a 14-micron nonwoven for this bike, aimed at dirtier air and rated at roughly a third of this weave's flow — worth knowing about, but a genuine exchange rather than a better version of the same thing. Which of the two belongs in a given bike follows from the air it is actually asked to breathe, not from where the entry sits in a list.
Care and cleaning
Air first, water rarely. Compressed air on the clean face, blown outward, is what the element normally needs; when the cloth stops responding to it, wash it in warm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water leaves clean. Drying happens in open air only, with no heater, no gun and no flame anywhere near it, and the panel goes back dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Ducati Diavel 1260 and 1260 S, 2019 to 2022. Twenty-one Ducati models take this element in total — see the Fitment tab.
