DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
TC-3 is the neon yellow Sparkle, and it is the most visible helmet Shoei makes in any category. Fluorescent yellow is not a fashion colour off-road — it is the one that gets seen in dust, in trees and in flat light.
What this helmet is for — and what it is not
🔵 One thing this helmet is definitively not: a dual-sport helmet. Those have a visor and a peak, a smaller aperture and a quieter shell, and they trade some off-road performance for road usability. The VFX-WR 06 makes no such trade in either direction.
It is a competition motocross helmet, worn with goggles, and it is built to be the best possible version of that.
About the Sparkle TC-3 graphic
Fluorescent pigments work by converting ultraviolet into visible light, which is why they appear to glow rather than merely to be bright — and why they hold their advantage in exactly the conditions where ordinary colours fail: overcast, dusk, dust haze, deep tree shade. For trail riding and enduro that is worth more than it is on a closed circuit, because the rider you need to be seen by may be behind you rather than beside the track. The Sparkle drawing suits the colour, breaking it across the shell rather than presenting one flat slab of it. 🔵 The honest caveat is durability: fluorescent pigments fade faster than any other type under sustained UV, and no amount of care stops it entirely. Keep the helmet out of direct sun when it is not on your head.
What MOTORCYCLE NEWS measured
🔵 A weight figure is only useful if you know which helmet it describes. Shoei does not publish one for the VFX-WR 06, and at least one first-impressions piece quotes 1300 g without making the generation clear.
The figure we use is MCN's, from a test explicitly of the 06 in March 2026: 1250 g. Their overall rating was 4 out of 5, with comfort at a full 5.0.
AIM+, four shells, double-D and EQRS
Full ECE 22.06 approval means the whole current schedule: impact at several energies and points, oblique impact, abrasion and retention strength. The „06" in this helmet's name is the standard it meets, not a styling code — a distinction worth making, because plenty of off-road helmets are still sold to 22.05.
Behind the mark: AIM+ six-layer composite, multi-density EPS, double-D ring, EQRS.
M.E.D.S. — and why it is not MIPS
Shoei develops its own safety systems rather than licensing them, which has an obvious downside in marketing terms: fewer people recognise the name. M.E.D.S. does the same job as the better-known alternative and does it differently, through a flexibly mounted element inside the multi-density EPS core.
🔵 We will not describe it as MIPS, because it is not, and the distinction would be immediately visible in any comparison tool.
Seven in, eight out, and a filter in the nose
Compare the numbers with a road helmet and the difference is stark. A well-ventilated sport-touring full-face has perhaps three intakes and three exhausts; this has seven and eight. That is not marketing excess, it is the difference between a rider sitting still at 120 km/h and one standing on the pegs at race pace.
The nose cover carries metal mesh and a replaceable dust filter.
Sizing, goggles and Max-Dry
MCN rated comfort 5.0 out of 5.0 on this helmet, which is the top mark and unusual for a competition shell — racing helmets are normally tolerated rather than enjoyed. The Max-Dry padding and four shell sizes are the reason.
Everything is removable and washable, and cheek and centre pads are available in several thicknesses.
How loud it is on the road
The goggles themselves make a measurable difference and are worth choosing with that in mind. A well-sealed pair fills the aperture and reduces the turbulence reaching your ears; a loose pair with a large gap at the brow does the opposite.
🔵 Even at best, this remains a loud helmet on tarmac — independently described as substantially so.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Shoei's off-road line is deliberately narrow: one competition helmet and one adventure helmet. There is no budget version and no intermediate model, which reflects a decision to build two helmets properly rather than five approximately.
This is the competition one — no visor, fifteen vents, AIM+ shell, 1250 g.

When something breaks
The mud guard and the anti-reflection sticker are the two parts riders forget they have. The guard fits at the lower edge of the aperture and keeps thrown mud off the goggle seal; the sticker kills glare from a white peak in low sun, and is supplied in the box with white-peak helmets.
Both are available separately, as are peaks, mouthpieces, filters and padding.
In the box
