DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
TC-8 is the orange Jammer, and orange is the most visible colour on a motocross track that is not fluorescent. It is also the colour a large part of the off-road world already rides, which is not an accident of taste.
What this helmet is for — and what it is not
The peak is functional rather than decorative and it is worth understanding why. On a track it deflects roost thrown up by the rider in front, shades the eyes at low sun and gives the shell part of its structural line. It also acts as an aerofoil in a crash, which is why motocross peaks are designed to break away rather than to hold.
🔵 The same peak makes the helmet unpleasant above about 100 km/h on tarmac. It is a track helmet.
About the Jammer TC-8 graphic
There is a measurable reason orange dominates off-road. Against the palette a rider is actually seen against — brown dirt, green trees, grey sky — orange sits at the maximum available contrast, and the human eye resolves it faster than red at distance. On a track that means a marshal spots you sooner; on a trail it means the rider behind you keeps track of where you went. That is a genuine argument rather than a styling one. The Jammer drawing suits it: hard-edged fields rather than gradients, so the colour is delivered in large legible blocks rather than diluted. 🔵 Bright colours fade fastest under UV, and this helmet lives outdoors. Wash it, keep it out of direct sun in the van, and it will hold considerably longer.
What MOTORCYCLE NEWS measured
Competition off-road helmets are rarely tested independently in any structured way, which makes MCN's March 2026 review of the 06 generation more useful than it would be for a road helmet. Their verdict: 4 out of 5.
The detail behind it — comfort 5.0/5.0, ventilation exceptional, a very large goggle aperture that takes motocross goggles without a fight, and 1250 g on the scales.
AIM+, four shells, double-D and EQRS
Mass centralisation is worth a sentence because it is not the same as low weight. A helmet can be light and still feel heavy if the mass sits far from the centre of your head — peak, chin bar and rear shell all act on a lever arm.
Four shell sizes keep the volume honest across XS to XXL, which is how Shoei keeps 1250 g feeling like 1250 g. The shell is six-layer AIM+ over multi-density EPS.
M.E.D.S. — and why it is not MIPS
The multi-part EPS core is doing two jobs at once here, which is what makes the system elegant. Its elements have differing absorption characteristics, so a linear impact is distributed rather than concentrated — and one of those elements is flexibly linked, so an angled impact is partly absorbed as movement.
🔵 That second function is M.E.D.S. It is Shoei's own development and is not the MIPS system.
Seven in, eight out, and a filter in the nose
The metal mesh in the nose cover is there for a specific hazard rather than for airflow. Riding behind someone on a dry track means a constant stream of small stones at face height, and the mouth opening is the one place the helmet cannot deflect them by shape alone.
Behind the mesh, a replaceable filter handles the dust. Seven intakes and eight exhausts do the rest.
Sizing, goggles and Max-Dry
Wash the interior often. An off-road liner takes sweat, dust and mud rather than just sweat, and one washed after every few sessions lasts appreciably longer than one that is never washed — which is exactly why Shoei specified a fast-drying material.
🔵 Everything comes out by hand, and replacement pads come in several thicknesses if the fit needs correcting at the same time.
How loud it is on the road
🔵 If road noise is a deciding factor for you, the honest recommendation is a different helmet rather than a different colour of this one. The Hornet ADV 06 has a visor and a shell shaped for tarmac; the GT-Air3 is quieter still.
This helmet is built for a start gate, and MCN's „substantial wind noise on the road" is the fair price of that.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
The graphic versions of this helmet cost more than the solids and the replica costs more again. Nothing changes structurally between them — same AIM+ shell, same M.E.D.S. liner, same four shell sizes, same ventilation.
🔵 That is worth knowing if the budget is tight: the black is exactly the same helmet as the more expensive replica.

When something breaks
🔵 Replacement padding is the right answer to a helmet that has loosened. Rather than living with one that moves — which on a competition helmet is a performance problem, not just an annoyance — fit thicker cheek pads.
They are made in several thicknesses for exactly this. We also stock peaks, mouthpieces, nose filters, mud guards and spare screws.
