DescriptionThe whole story▼
The X.R5R is the racing helmet Nexx launched in autumn 2026, and the Zero Pro Blue Matt dresses it in matt exposed carbon with cold blue highlights. On the studio photo the visor carries a blue mirror and the fins of the rear spoiler pick up the same chrome blue, a sharp contrast against the dark weave. This page starts where riders on track usually start asking questions: the visor. Nexx redesigned the mechanism for this model, made it smaller, added a lock that keeps the lens shut at speed and ships the helmet with the highest Pinlock grade. Weight is around 1,325 grams in the medium shell, approval is ECE 22.06.
X-Race lock: a visor that stays shut
Above a certain speed the airflow tries to lift any visor away from its seal, and on a fast circuit you feel it as a whistle or a draught at the brow. The X-Race visor locking system latches the lens against the eyeport so that this cannot happen, and releases it with a deliberate push of the thumb. That matters most when you are tucked behind the screen with the head turned slightly, where the pressure on one side of the visor is highest. For the road it simply means one less thing to check before you accelerate onto a motorway.
Recoil change and three detent positions
The Recoil system lets you pull the visor off its pivots and clip another one in without a screwdriver, which is useful when the sun drops behind the grandstand mid-session and you want to switch from the mirror to a clear lens. Between closed and fully open there are three intermediate stops. The first one leaves a small gap for demisting at a standstill, the higher ones are for filtering through traffic on warm days. According to Nexx the mechanism is more compact than on earlier models, so the side plates sit flatter against the shell.
About the Zero Pro Blue Matt finish
Zero Pro is a family of six colourways that all share the same base: bare carbon fibre, sealed under a matt lacquer, with a tonal ZERO lettering stretched along each side and a white Nexx logo. The Blue Matt adds blue mirrored accents to the spoiler fins and, on the photo, to the visor. In daylight the contrast between the soft, light-swallowing shell and the hard metallic blue is the whole point. Matt surfaces hide hairline swirls from the bag or a gloved hand very well, but grease and fingerprints show as darker smudges. Use a damp microfibre cloth and mild soap, never polish or wax, because both leave permanent shiny spots. The mirrored parts are coated and scratch more easily than the shell; wipe them, do not scrub.
Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision in the box
The anti-fog insert supplied with the carbon X.R5R is the 200 grade, the highest moisture-absorbing level in the Pinlock range, and the MaxVision cut that covers the full eyeport rather than leaving a fogged border. Breath condenses fastest on a cold morning on track when you sit in the pit lane with the visor down, and that is where the higher grade earns its place. The X-Matrix 2 version of the X.R5R comes with the 120 grade instead.
Looking after the lens and the insert
A Pinlock only works if it seals against the visor, so handle it by the edges and never wipe its soft inner face with a dry cloth. Rinse the visor with plain lukewarm water, dab it dry with microfibre and keep solvents, glass cleaner and fuel-station paper towels away from both the lens and the mirror coating. If the insert shows a fogged ring at its edge, it is no longer sealing and should be taken out, cleaned and refitted. Stored in its bag, a visor stays free of the fine scratches that make low sun so tiring.
Prepared for tear-offs
The visor has the posts for tear-off strips, the clear film layers racers pull away when the lens is covered in insects or rubber dust. A tear-off set is not included; Nexx marks it as not part of the box. If you race or run long sessions, budget for a pack separately.
Which lenses come in the carton
Nexx lists a fitted visor plus a second visor but does not state either tint. The blue mirror you see on the product photo is not proof of what is in the box. If you want the blue mirror as part of the purchase, ask us first and we will check. Remember that a mirrored or dark lens is for daylight only; ride a clear visor at dusk and at night.
The rest of the helmet in short
Behind the visor sits an X-PRO Carbon shell moulded in four sizes, a 360° Custom Fit interior with interchangeable pads and X-Mart Dry fabric that comes out for washing, and eight intakes with five exhausts plus cheek-pad ventilation. The rear spoiler accepts a tool-free extension of up to 20 mm, supplied in the box. A Peraluman double D-ring with a magnetic X-Lock holder for the strap end secures it.
Intercom, camera and hydration
The shell is prepared for universal intercom systems, and the manual describes the installation. A 360° rotating mount for an action camera fixes under the chin with four locking positions, which gives you a clear forward view without a camera on the crown. Straps for an X-Hidro drinking tube are integrated, handy on hot track days.
Honest limits
No internal sun visor, so plan on a tinted lens or sunglasses. No FIM homologation; Nexx marks it as absent for every public X.R5R colourway. No SHARP stars or independent test results yet, since the helmet has only just reached the market, and we do not publish an invented decibel value. A racing helmet with eight intakes is built for airflow and is not the quietest choice for long motorway stints.
Spares and the X.R3R question
Owners of an X.R3R will ask whether their visors fit. They are not listed as compatible: the X.R5R uses a new, smaller mechanism and a slide-in spoiler extension. At the time of writing Nexx has not yet published X.R5R spare visors in its parts catalogue. According to press coverage of the launch, all plastic parts are designed to be replaceable.
