DescriptionThe whole story▼
Gravix Carbon White pairs bare, glossy carbon with crisp white bodywork and an oversized Nexx logotype that runs from the chin bar up the side of the helmet. The model underneath is the X.R5R, the racing full-face Nexx introduced on 27 October 2026. Its headline figure is the weight: around 1,325 grams in the M shell for an ECE 22.06 helmet that still carries eight intakes, an extendable spoiler, a camera mount and a hydration-tube holder. Available here in sizes XS to XXL.
Light where it counts: the neck
Nexx states approx. 1,325 g ± 50 g for the X-PRO Carbon version, measured on the M shell. A helmet of that weight is noticeably easier to carry through a long day than the 1,500 to 1,700 grams that many sport and touring full-faces weigh. The difference shows in situations where the head is held against a force rather than simply supported: looking up and through a long right-hander while hanging off the bike, holding the chin on the tank on a straight, or snapping the head round for a shoulder check at speed. Less mass also means less inertia in a crash, although no helmet weight figure is a safety rating in itself. Expect the XXS-S shell to undercut the quoted figure and the XL-XXL shell to sit above it.
About the Gravix Carbon White finish
Gravix is a graphic decor, not a full paint job. On the Nexx side view, the crown, the area around the eye port and the rear half of the shell remain exposed carbon under a clear gloss lacquer, with the weave clearly visible. White panels cover the brow above the visor, the upper part of the spoiler and a broad sweep across the chin bar and lower cheek. Across that white sweep the Nexx lettering is printed in black at large scale, and the final letters continue onto the carbon in white, so the logo appears to cross from one surface to the next. A small red detail sits low on the neck roll. The result is a high-contrast, clean racing look that matches almost any bike livery. Practically, white shows insect residue and black rubber marks sooner than dark paint, but it also stays cooler in direct sun. The gloss carbon cleans with a damp microfibre cloth; avoid aggressive solvents on the printed lettering.
Where the X.R5R sits in the Nexx racing line
Nexx now offers two racing families, and each comes with two shell materials. The table compares them using the manufacturer's own figures.
| Model | Shell | Weight (Nexx) | Shell sizes | Intakes / exhausts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| X.R5R Carbon (this helmet) | X-PRO Carbon | approx. 1,325 g (M) | 4 | 8 / 5 |
| X.R5R X-Matrix 2 | X-Matrix 2 composite | approx. 1,475 g | 4 | 8 / 5 |
| X.R3R Carbon | X-PRO Carbon | approx. 1,350 g | 3 | 6 / 4 |
| X.R3R Speedcore | X-Matrix 2 composite | approx. 1,650 g | 3 | 5 / 4 |
Compared with the X.R3R, the X.R5R gains a fourth shell size, more ventilation, a smaller visor mechanism with a dedicated race lock and a spoiler you extend without tools. The X.R3R's visors, Pinlocks and spoiler parts are not compatible with it.
Fitting it to your head
Inside, Nexx uses its 360° Custom Fit concept: interchangeable pads and cheek pads of different thickness let a dealer or rider adjust the fit around the crown and the jaw, which is particularly useful on a race helmet that should not move at all in a tuck. The X-Mart Dry fabric is designed to move sweat away from the skin; the complete liner comes out for washing. The manual describes the helmet as glasses-friendly, so riders with prescription frames can use it on the road. Four shells for the size range mean the outer shape stays proportional from small to large.
Visor mechanism
The visor uses Nexx's Recoil system, now in a more compact form. It offers three intermediate positions, so you can crack it open for air in the paddock or in traffic, and an X-Race locking system that prevents the visor from lifting under pressure on a fast straight. Posts for tear-offs are prepared, but tear-offs themselves are an accessory. The Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision anti-fog insert supplied with the helmet covers almost the full field of view.
Ventilation
Eight inlets and five outlets give the X.R5R more openings than the X.R3R. The upper and chin inlets can be shut, cheek-pad channels draw air past the face, and the Air Cumbs chamber inside the liner spreads it across the head. That layout is meant to keep working in a full tuck, when the forehead vents of many road helmets are already in the dead air behind the screen.
Strap, release and reflectors
A double D-ring closure is standard; on carbon versions such as Gravix, Nexx specifies light Peraluman rings, and a magnetic X-Lock tab holds the strap end. In an emergency, the cheek pads can be pulled out to remove the helmet more gently. Reflective elements help other road users see you after dark.
ECE 22.06 in brief
Since 2024 every newly sold road helmet in the EU must be approved to ECE 22.06. The regulation adds rotational testing with oblique impacts on an abrasive surface, uses many more impact points than 22.05, tests at more than one speed and assesses the visor more strictly. That is the label on this helmet. Other approvals Nexx lists apply outside Europe.
Wind noise
Nexx does not publish a noise figure, and because the X.R5R has only just reached the market, no independent measurement exists yet. Racing helmets are optimised for a tucked position; sitting upright on a naked bike, any race helmet is louder than a dedicated touring model. Wear earplugs on the motorway.
Before you buy
There is no drop-down sun visor. Gravix is not FIM homologated: Nexx shows FIM FRHPHE-02 with a cross for this decor, so check your series rules before using it in a championship. No SHARP rating has been published yet. Spare parts and accessories for the X.R5R are only just being listed by Nexx, and parts from the X.R3R are not interchangeable.
