Westbound is the graphic family on the fibreglass shell, and blue with red is its more colourful reading — two values far enough apart to stay legible through dust and at distance.

Versatile in two directions — and what the peak costs

🔵 The useful question before buying is what proportion of your riding is unpaved. If the answer is „a few gravel tracks on the way to somewhere", the peak comes off and this becomes a touring flip-up — in which case the lighter, quieter X.LIFETOUR is the better helmet.

If the peak stays on, this is the one.

🔵 A peak is an aerofoil, and at motorway speed it generates both noise and lift — the force that pulls at your neck for as long as you hold your head up. No adventure helmet escapes that.

What this one offers against it is an adjustable, tool-free removable peak and the option of simply riding without it.

About the Westbound Blue Red graphic

Graphics on an adventure flip-up have the hardest job of any helmet type, because the design has to survive a chin-bar seam running across the shell and a peak interrupting it at the brow. Westbound works by keeping its elements in large areas that respect both lines rather than crossing them awkwardly, which is why it still reads as one design with the chin bar raised. 🔵 The blue ground hides trail dust well; the red is the element that fades first under sustained UV, and a printed graphic cannot be touched in after a stone strike.

P/J homologation and the Super Locker chin bar

🔵 The safety mechanism on the release button matters more on an adventure helmet than on a touring one, because there is more to catch it: gloves, luggage straps, a hand reaching for the peak. It prevents the chin bar opening accidentally.

The helmet is ECE 22-06 P/J homologated in both positions.

The X-Matrix2 shell

🔵 Two outer shell sizes rather than three shows at the size boundaries — a helmet at the top of the smaller shell carries thinner padding than one at the bottom of the larger. Try the size the chart gives you rather than ordering by tape alone.

The construction is X-Matrix2 at around 1800 g ±50 stripped.

🔵 The full honest list. Heaviest helmet Nexx makes — 2042 g measured kitted, weight scored 1/5. Noise 101 dB, scored 3/5. Comfort 3/5. No SHARP rating, unlike its touring sibling.

Against that: P/J homologation, four market approvals, a removable peak, two visors, a fitted Pinlock lens and a measured 4/5 for ventilation.

X-Sensus Vision, X-SWIFT and two visors

The internal drop-down sun visor is what makes this an all-day helmet rather than a fair-weather one — deploy it climbing into the sun, retract it in a valley, and never stop to change anything.

🔵 The outer visor stays clear and Pinlock-equipped, which is the correct combination for year-round adventure touring.

Two closable intakes and the Mid Airflow Chamber

🔵 On a flip-up you have a ventilation option no fixed helmet has: open the chin bar. In slow traffic or at a standstill that clears the interior faster than any vent setting, and the P/J homologation means it is legal on the move too.

101 decibels — and what the peak costs

🔵 Earplugs are not an admission that a helmet is loud. Hearing damage from wind noise is cumulative and permanent, and it happens at speeds most riders consider ordinary — at 101 dB over a six-hour day, they are equipment rather than an accessory.

The measured score was 3 out of 5.

Morpho-Fit interior and F.R.S.

Retention is a metal micrometric ratchet rather than a plastic one, which on a helmet fastened several times a day for years is a durability decision. Every closure component is stainless steel or special aluminium.

🔵 Check the ratchet adjustment every few months; it should be snug enough that the helmet cannot be rolled forward off your head.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

Within the model the price ladder is mostly paint. The Plain versions at 479 € and the Westbound graphics at 519 € share the X-Matrix2 shell; the Terra and Zero Pro versions add carbon for 80–120 € more.

🔵 The carbon saves 150 g here rather than the 50 g it saves on the touring sibling — a meaningful difference on a helmet this heavy.

Comms, cameras and spare parts

Spare parts matter on an adventure helmet because you may need one a long way from a dealer. Visors, Pinlock 70 lenses, cheek pads, the Morpho-Fit liner, neck roll, chin-strap covers, the peak, the extensor, wind deflector and breath guard are all separately available.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished.
