DescriptionThe whole story▼
The monochrome Westbound is the quietest graphic in the range — the design carried entirely in tone, with no colour to date it. On a helmet likely to be kept for years, that is a practical argument.
Versatile in two directions — and what the peak costs
Where this sits against its own sibling is the clearest comparison available. The X.LIFETOUR is the same platform without the peak: 96 dB measured against this helmet's 101 dB, and a SHARP 3-star rating this one does not have.
🔵 The peak is what separates them, and it costs about 5 dB.
The peak does real work off tarmac: shade at low sun angles, deflection of spray and stones thrown by the rider ahead, and rain kept off the visor at slow speeds. Those are the reasons adventure helmets have them.
🔵 On a motorway they are all irrelevant, and the peak becomes a 5 dB penalty. It removes without tools.
About the Westbound Black Grey graphic
Tonal graphics age far better than coloured ones because colours belong to seasons and values do not. A black and grey treatment reads as design rather than as a marker of when the helmet was bought — and on an adventure helmet that will outlast at least one motorcycle, that matters. It is also the best of the two Westbounds at hiding dirt, since both values are dark enough to absorb trail dust and road film. 🔵 Conspicuity is correspondingly low, which on a helmet ridden through unfamiliar country at dusk is the trade you are making.
P/J homologation and the Super Locker chin bar
🔵 Unlike its touring sibling, the X.LIFECOUNTRY has no SHARP rating — the programme has not tested it. The X.LIFETOUR, on the same platform, holds 3 stars with the face guard locked in 50 % of impacts.
That figure is not this helmet's result, and we are not going to transfer it. What this helmet holds is P/J homologation and four market approvals.
The X-Matrix2 shell
🔵 The decision that splits this range is the shell, and here the gap is larger than on Nexx's touring flip-up: 150 g between X-Matrix2 and X-PRO Carbon 3K, against 50 g on the X.LIFETOUR.
On a helmet measured at over two kilograms kitted, that is worth considering seriously.
2042 grams — the number to weigh
🔵 If weight is a priority, this is the wrong helmet and it is better to know now. A fixed full-face adventure helmet is 300–400 g lighter; Nexx's own X.LIFETOUR, without the peak, is lighter and quieter again.
What this one offers instead is a chin bar that opens and a peak that fits — and it charges you for both in grams.
X-Sensus Vision, X-SWIFT and two visors
Fogging is decided at low speed — gravel climbs, junctions, waiting at a border — where there is no airflow to clear a visor. The fitted Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens covers the full width of the aperture rather than leaving a clear border.
🔵 On a flip-up you can also simply open the chin bar, which clears a fogged visor faster than any vent setting.
Two closable intakes and the Mid Airflow Chamber
What ventilation actually manages is humidity as much as heat: sweat that cannot evaporate stays in the liner, and a saturated liner ends a hot day early. The Morpho-Fit interior's multi-channel ventilation works on that alongside the vents.
🔵 The X-Mart Dry fabric dries roughly twice as fast as cotton — useful between consecutive touring days.
101 decibels — and what the peak costs
Perceived noise depends more on your motorcycle than on your helmet — a tall adventure screen putting turbulent air at head height will make any helmet loud, where clean air at the same speed will not.
🔵 The comparable figure is the measured one: 101 dB at 130 km/h, scored 3/5.
Morpho-Fit interior and F.R.S.
🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The liner beds in over the first few hours and again across the first season, so a helmet that is perfect in the shop will usually be loose by the summer's end. Start tighter than comfortable.
The anti-noise cheek pads are acoustic components as well as padding — fit Nexx's own when replacing them.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
🔵 If an independent safety rating is part of your decision, note that this helmet has none. Its sibling the X.LIFETOUR does — 3 SHARP stars from April 2026 — but that rating belongs to that model and we are not going to transfer it.
What the X.LIFECOUNTRY holds is P/J homologation and four market approvals.
Comms, cameras and spare parts
🔵 Check comms fit before buying the comms. X-COM3 is designed into this shell; a third-party unit will work but will not use the cable channels, battery recess or microphone position — and a clamped-on unit is what gets knocked off by a branch.
Bluetooth 5; the system is a separate purchase.
