DescriptionThe whole story▼
White with orange is the most useful Terra for riding that genuinely leaves the tarmac. Orange is the colour the eye resolves fastest against earth and foliage; white keeps the helmet working on the road sections.
Versatile in two directions — and what the peak costs
The peak removes without tools, which converts this helmet into a touring flip-up in about a minute. A good number of owners run it peakless for the road sections and refit it for the interesting parts.
🔵 That is the intended use rather than a workaround, and it is worth doing — the peak is the largest single source of noise and lift.
The peak on this helmet is adjustable rather than fixed, which is what lets it work at trail speed and at road speed rather than being optimised for one. A flatter setting reduces lift; a lower one gives more shade.
🔵 It removes entirely without tools, and a screwless extensor is supplied.
About the Terra White Orange graphic
Being seen off-road is a different problem from being seen in traffic. It happens in dust, in dappled tree shade and in the flat light at the end of a long day, and it usually matters most to the rider behind you rather than to a car. Orange holds up in all three where red flattens out and dark colours disappear entirely. Setting it against white rather than a dark ground keeps the helmet doing its job on the tarmac too, which on an adventure trip is most of the distance. 🔵 Both pigments fade faster than dark ones under sustained UV.
P/J homologation and the Super Locker chin bar
A flip-up is a full-face with a hinge, and the hinge is where they differ from one another. This one is a Super Locker pivot, locking positively in both raised and lowered positions, with corrosion-resistant metal components throughout.
🔵 The helmet is P/J homologated, so both positions are certified.
The X-PRO Carbon 3K shell
3K describes the carbon tow — three thousand filaments per bundle — and it is the weave that produces the familiar chequerboard pattern. On the exposed-weave Zero Pro you are looking at it directly.
The shell is quoted at 1650 g stripped, 150 g under the composite, across two outer shell sizes.
2042 grams — the number to weigh
Carbon saves 150 g here against the composite shell, which is three times what it saves on Nexx's touring flip-up. On a helmet this heavy that is a saving worth paying for rather than a marginal one.
🔵 It still measured 2042 g kitted, and weight scored 1 out of 5.
X-Sensus Vision, X-SWIFT and two visors
🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and rules differ between them. On this helmet the question largely disappears — the internal sun visor drops behind a clear outer visor and retracts instantly.
Both supplied visors are clear, and one carries a Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens.
Two closable intakes and the Mid Airflow Chamber
Airflow only happens if there is somewhere lower in pressure for the air to go, and the rear exhausts are positioned to give the Mid Airflow Chamber something to pull against rather than merely venting.
🔵 Two closable intakes, two exhausts, and a measured ventilation score of 4 out of 5.
101 decibels — and what the peak costs
Noise fatigue is cumulative over a riding day in a way a single measurement cannot convey, and a few decibels is a larger difference than it sounds — 3 dB is a doubling of sound energy.
🔵 At 101 dB this helmet sits 5 dB above its own peakless sibling. Removing the peak is the single most effective thing you can do.
Morpho-Fit interior and F.R.S.
🔵 Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. A loose helmet moves under braking and rotates in a crash; a tight one produces a headache at forty minutes — and on a two-kilogram helmet, sooner.
Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. Two outer shell sizes cover XS to XXXL.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
Buying a Plain version rather than a graphic saves money and changes nothing else — same shell, same seals, same chin bar, same peak, same visor system.
🔵 The carbon Terra and Zero Pro versions change the shell and save 150 g, which on this helmet is the upgrade worth considering.
Comms, cameras and spare parts
Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. Nexx, like every manufacturer, recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition — and immediately after any real impact.
🔵 On a flip-up used off tarmac, also check the pivot and the seals annually. Dust and water crossings are what seize a chin-bar mechanism.
