DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Vintage graphic puts period striping on a thoroughly modern shell, and this is its darkest execution — grey and red laid over black, so the retro reference is there without the helmet pretending to be old.
Four stars from SHARP
🟢 Most helmets on sale carry no independent rating at all — SHARP tests a limited number each year, so an absent rating usually means untested rather than poor. Having a published result is itself informative.
🔵 The Stream II has one, and it is 4 stars of 5 on the current standard.
KPA shell, multi-density EPS and three shell sizes
The construction is conventional and well executed: an injection-moulded KPA shell in three sizes, a multi-density EPS liner, laser-cut comfort foam, and ECE 22.06 approval.
🔵 Nothing exotic, which is the point — the four-star SHARP result comes from doing ordinary things carefully rather than from expensive materials.
What the ECE 22.06 plaque actually means
One consequence of 22.06 that riders notice: helmets got slightly heavier. Meeting more impact points at more speeds, plus an oblique test, generally means more material.
🔵 The Stream II's roughly 1550 g is a 22.06-era weight, not a legacy figure.
About the Vintage black, grey and red graphic
Retro striping works on a modern helmet only when the underlying shape is calm enough to carry it, and the Stream II's shell is. There are no exaggerated spoilers or shard-shaped vent covers to fight with a horizontal stripe, so the graphic sits as a band around a smooth form — which is how it looked when this styling was current rather than referential. The specific pleasure of the dark version is that it works as a plain dark helmet at a distance and only reveals itself close up. That is a different register from the white Vintage, which announces itself from across a car park. 🔵 Practically it behaves like a black helmet: it hides road film well and it is harder for a driver to resolve in poor light than a pale one. The red element is the most UV-sensitive pigment on it, so store the helmet out of direct sun. If you are choosing between the three Vintage finishes, this is the one for a rider who wants the striping to be a detail rather than the point. It is the most wearable of the three with ordinary clothes and the least likely to look like a costume.
Twin Visor: two screens, one shell
The main visor is the primary optical surface and the one that decides how the helmet feels at night. Keep it clean, keep it unscratched, and replace it when it is badly marked rather than living with it.
🔵 The internal shield handles daylight glare and retracts out of the way when the light drops.
Anti-fog — prepared for, not supplied
The pins are already fitted to the visor, so installing the lens later is a two-minute job with no tools — drop it in, close the visor onto it, and adjust the tension by rotating the pins.
🔵 The lens is a separate purchase; the preparation is standard.
Ventilation, and what we are not claiming about it
The arrangement is conventional: air in at the chin and crown, out at the rear. On a helmet at this price that is what you should expect, and it is what is fitted.
🔵 What is not documented is any channelling of that air through the liner — a specification LS2 does publish for other models in the range.
Lining, closure and everyday comfort
Replacement cheek pads in other thicknesses are the most useful spare part LS2 sells and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with age and can solve a pressure point that would otherwise mean a different helmet.
🔵 The full lining is replaceable too, and both come out without tools.
Where it sits in LS2's range
The Stream II replaces the original Stream in LS2's range and is a different helmet on a different standard — ECE 22.06 rather than 22.05, and independently tested in that form in September 2024.
🔵 Reviews of the earlier model do not describe this one.
Care and replacement parts
Wash the lining a few times a season in cool water and let it dry away from direct heat. Sweat degrades foam, and the foam is what holds the helmet in position on your head.
🔵 The whole interior comes out by hand in a couple of minutes.
