Mika in black and blue is the dark sibling of the white version — the same race-derived layout with the values inverted, which changes the character of the helmet more than you would expect.

🔵 The honest framing of any crash rating: it describes performance in a standardised laboratory impact, and no laboratory impact is your crash. What it does reliably tell you is how this helmet compares with others tested the same way.

🟢 On that basis the Stream II scores 4 of 5 — bought at retail, destroyed, and published by a government programme.

KPA shell, multi-density EPS and three shell sizes

🔵 One sentence that applies to every helmet on this site and to this one specifically: after any real impact, replace it. The EPS liner absorbs energy by permanently deforming, and it cannot do so twice.

The shell is KPA thermoplastic in three sizes; the liner is multi-density EPS; the helmet weighs about 1550 g.

What the ECE 22.06 plaque actually means

🔵 If you are comparing this helmet against something a few years old, the standard is not a detail. 22.06 tests more points, at more speeds, with a rotational assessment the previous schedule did not include.

The Stream II is a 22.06 helmet and its independent rating was earned in that form.

About the Mika black and blue graphic

Inverting a livery does not simply darken it. On the white version the graphic is a set of bands across a bright field and the eye reads the whole shell; here the dark base recedes and the blue becomes the only thing with any weight, so the helmet reads as a shape with a highlight rather than as a decorated surface. It is the more restrained of the two by a wide margin, and for a rider who wants the layout without the brightness it is the better answer. Blue is also the most practical colour available on this shell: road film reads as a haze against black and as an obvious film against white, and against a deep blue it largely disappears between washes. 🔵 The trade is conspicuity — a dark-based helmet is harder for a driver to resolve in poor light than a pale one, and that is when it counts. Wash it wet; never dry-wipe gloss. Between the two Mika finishes the choice is genuinely about priorities rather than taste: the white version is measurably easier for a driver to see, and this one is measurably easier to keep looking clean. Both are the same helmet underneath.

Twin Visor: two screens, one shell

🔵 Of everything on this helmet, the internal sun visor is the feature riders coming from a basic full-face notice first and stop being able to do without.

It drops with one gloved hand and retracts completely into the shell when the light changes.

Anti-fog — prepared for, not supplied

🔵 The chin wind deflector supplied with the helmet does two things: it cuts turbulence and noise from below, and it redirects some of your breath away from the visor.

Useful, but not an anti-fog system. For that, add the Pinlock 70 MaxVision the visor is prepared for — it is not included.

Ventilation, and what we are not claiming about it

🔵 A word on how the bars on this page are set. Weight and fit come from LS2's published specification; the SHARP result comes from the test programme; ventilation is a construction assessment; and wind noise is left blank because no measurement exists.

We would rather show a gap than invent a number.

Lining, closure and everyday comfort

🔵 If a helmet is comfortable for twenty minutes and unbearable after two hours, the problem is almost always a single pressure point rather than the overall size.

Because the Stream II's pads come out and can be replaced individually in different thicknesses, that is usually fixable rather than fatal.

Where it sits in LS2's range

🔵 If you already own a 22.05 helmet and are wondering whether to replace it: 22.05 remains legal to wear, but the current schedule tests more points, at more speeds, with a rotational assessment the old one lacked.

The Stream II is a 22.06 helmet with a four-star independent result.

Care and replacement parts

🔵 One last honest point about a mid-priced helmet: it is designed to be replaced rather than restored. Spend the maintenance effort on the visor and the lining, keep it out of the sun, and replace it after five years or one impact.

Both are cheaper than the alternative.
