DescriptionThe whole story▼
A big single does its braking with the engine as much as with the lever, and a 500XC-W coming down a steep, loose descent is usually being held back by a clutch worked in short, deliberate slips rather than by a wide-open throttle. That technique asks a great deal of one finger and one lever, over and over, for as long as the hill lasts. Accossato's AGS14 is the silver clutch lever in the original shape for this machine, listed from 2012 to 2016.
Key Features
- Clutch lever in the original shape for the KTM 500XC-W
- Accossato's entry runs from 2012 to 2016
- Silver
- Left-hand side, hydraulic clutch
- An original spare parts type, developed for value for money
- Accossato reports greater resistance after damage or a fall
- A single lever per pack
- No German ABE or test mark; for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato keeps the description of the AGS14 short, and so does this one. The blade is made to the form of the clutch lever the 500XC-W carries from new, which means a rider who knows the bike by feel notices nothing different after a repair, and that matters on a machine where the clutch is used almost as a second brake. The range was put together so that a broken control does not cost what a performance part would, and the maker states that the method used to produce these levers leaves them more resistant after damage or a collision. The colour listed here is silver. No weight, material or measurement is published, so none is guessed at in this text.
Dragging the Clutch Downhill
On a big-bore enduro bike a steep, loose descent is rarely managed on the brakes alone, because locking the rear wheel on shale or dry leaf litter simply removes steering with it. The alternative, and the technique most experienced riders fall back on, is to let the engine do the slowing and use the clutch to keep that braking smooth rather than abrupt: a slight squeeze to take the edge off a sudden jerk, a release to let the engine drag resume, repeated dozens of times down a single hill. It is a style of riding that lives entirely in the fingers and the lever, and it punishes two things in particular. A lever with play at the pivot gives an imprecise bite, so the rider ends up over-correcting and the bike surges rather than settling. A lever that has lost its tip to an earlier fall changes where the finger sits and makes the same fine control harder to find exactly when it matters most. The fix for both is routine rather than clever: strip the pivot occasionally, clean out the grit that a dusty descent inevitably deposits there, grease lightly, and replace a blade the moment it stops being straight instead of waiting for it to fail outright on the next hill. A 500XC-W asked to do this kind of riding regularly goes through clutch levers at a rate that would surprise a road rider, which is exactly why the part is worth keeping in the tool roll rather than ordering only after the fact.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGS14 for the 500XC-W from 2012 to 2016, with the AGD316 covering the brake side from 2014 to 2016, so each half of the handlebar has one unambiguous code. The same clutch lever is used across a large family of related machines and appears in our catalogue for the Husqvarna FC 350, the Husqvarna TE 125 and the Husqvarna FS 450 as well. Accossato's CNC levers for this bike are the B8283 and the C7283, for riders who want a tuning part rather than a plain spare.
Road Approval
We hold no approval documentation for the AGS14, so neither a German ABE nor a test mark can be shown, and the lever is offered for racing and competition use.
