DescriptionThe whole story▼
Skilful pairs a glossy black-and-anthracite base with sharp geometric slashes and a neon-green accent panel low on the chin bar — a deliberately technical, almost circuit-board-like graphic rather than the organic texture of Reptaia. It reads as the most overtly sport-technical decor in the fibre line; the small green highlight does most of the work, a single saturated accent against an otherwise grey-and-black composition. The green accent is concentrated low on the shell rather than spread evenly, so from a distance at speed the helmet reads mostly as black-and-grey, with the colour only becoming obvious up close or in photographs.
The gloss finish
A glossy clear coat throughout gives the sharp-edged graphic lines a crisp, defined look rather than the softer edge gloss can give a busy pattern — the geometric motif here relies on hard contrast between panels, and gloss preserves that better than a satin or matte coat would. Under garage lighting the green accent picks up a faint reflective quality the black and grey panels do not share, a small detail that only shows up close rather than from a normal viewing distance on the bike.
About the Skilful decor family
Skilful is offered in two finishes within this line, glossy (documented here) and matte (a separate decor below) — a pairing Shark repeats across several 2027 graphics in this range, letting the same design exist in both a reflective and a non-reflective version rather than committing to one finish only.
ECE 22.06 under the Skilful graphic
Skilful's shell is certified to ECE 22.06, which the EU has required for newly homologated helmets since January 2024. The test protocol grew from five impact points at one speed to eighteen points across several speeds, added an oblique-impact test against a rough anvil to load the shell with twisting force, and for the first time scores rotational-impact energy through a Brain Injury Criterion rather than linear deceleration alone. Shark tests the complete assembled helmet, Pinlock included.
What fibre means for the Skilful decor
Skilful's shell is built from multiaxial composite fibre — cross-laid glass fibre, not carbon — the entry point into the Spartan RS family rather than a compromised version of it. Set beside the carbon Spartan RS, the certification, the Double-D closure, the multi-density EPS and the VZ300 visor are unchanged; carbon buys a lighter first-shell-size figure and a visibly different surface texture, priced roughly 70 to 140 euros above this decor, not a different crash rating.
Weight as a running total, Skilful
Skilful weighs 1500 g at the first shell size per Shark's own figure, with one independent review unit coming in slightly heavier at 1530 g. Both numbers put it squarely in the ordinary range for a fibre full-face lid. What counts on the road is less the number itself than where it sits: entirely on the neck, loaded dynamically through every brake and lean rather than carried like static luggage.
How Skilful ventilates
A chin-bar intake and a forehead intake feed air in, with a permanently open exhaust vent in the rear spoiler letting warm air escape continuously. The sliders are gloved-hand friendly according to reviewers, though the lack of detent clicks means intermediate settings are set by eye. This delivers adequate, not outstanding, airflow for keeping the visor clear on a typical ride.
Visor system, Skilful
A drop-down internal sun shield gives near-total face coverage with its own detente positions, according to independent testers. The outer VZ300 visor is optical class 1, variable thickness from 2.8 mm to 2.2 mm, anchored at four points, centrally locked, anti-scratch coated and fitted from the factory with a clear Pinlock 120 insert.
Handling the Skilful visor
Tool-free removal via the four-point lock means swapping Skilful's visor for a spare or a tint is a few minutes' work rather than a dealer job, the same system used across the whole line. The anti-scratch coating is standard equipment, not a paid extra.
Intercom compatibility, Skilful
The shell recess at the cheek pad, common to the whole line, accepts Shark's own Sharktooth intercom or a SENA For SHARK unit without an external bracket. As with every decor here, no comms hardware ships in the box — only the mounting compatibility.
Sizing, Skilful
The XS-to-XXL run is built on two shell sizes, a point reviewers note as short of the three-shell benchmark they consider ideal for a premium helmet. What earns praise instead is a distinctly round internal fit — good for riders who find Shoei or Arai too narrow — with cheek pads that adjust independently of the shell for a tighter or looser feel.
On wind noise, Skilful
Shark publishes no decibel figure for this or any Spartan RS decor. One reviewer reports appropriate road noise without excessive drone at legal speeds; another, without a number, worries that dropping the Spartan GT's tighter neck roll could raise motorway wind noise. Neither account is a lab measurement and neither is smoothed away here.
Spare parts, Skilful
A scratched or fogged visor on this Skilful decor is a straightforward replacement through Shark's standing spare-visor listing for the Spartan RS family. The VZ300 visor fitted here is shared with the Spartan RS Carbon and the Spartan GT Pro Carbon, which keeps a wider pool of stock and tints available than a helmet-specific visor would.
Where this sits in Shark's own range
This glossy Skilful decor costs 389.99 EUR. Measured against Shark's own 2027 price list rather than another brand's helmets:
| Line | UVP range | Shell |
|---|---|---|
| Skwal i3 | 319.99 - 399.99 EUR | Thermoplastic, LED brake light |
| OXO | 349.99 - 459.99 EUR | Thermoplastic modular |
| Spartan RS (this decor: 389.99 EUR) | 359.99 - 389.99 EUR | Multiaxial composite fibre |
| Spartan RS Carbon | 429.99 - 529.99 EUR | Carbon, same VZ300 visor family |
| Spartan GT Pro Carbon | 549.99 - 629.99 EUR | Carbon, also shares the VZ300 visor |
Limitations, honestly
The neon-green accent covers a small proportion of the shell — most of the surface is black and anthracite grey — so riders expecting a predominantly green helmet from the colour listing should check the photography rather than the name alone. Two shell sizes and no manufacturer decibel figure for wind noise apply as elsewhere in the line. A rider choosing between the two Skilful finishes documented in this line is really choosing between this reflective, technical read and the rougher, matte graffiti tone of its sibling below — not between two versions of the same look.
